31 Day De-Clutter Challenge

Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve had a little blogging break over Christmas which has been lovely. I’ve really enjoyed spending time with my family and actually getting on top of the housework – a little! New year is a time to look back, reflect and envisage where you want things to be going. I don’t believe in resolutions, more like ongoing goals that are achievable. With this in mind, and to kickstart a de-cluttered mind this year, I’m starting a de-cluttering challenge for you (and me). The main bulk of it will be in my parenting Facebook group, where I’ll be posting the daily prompts and helping you through, and motivating myself to keep going too.

The idea is that each day is manageable small areas, and you can spend 5 minutes, 15 minutes or more if you get stuck in. There are a couple of free choices, or you can go along with the daily suggestion. I first got the idea from Katy from Katykicker.com, who is a money saving and organisational blog, but I’ve adapted it to suit me.

The hardest thing for me is sentimental items, or things that I’ve become attached to because I’ve had them so long! This morning I went through my picture frames and photo frames. I’ve had them in piles since we moved or decorated and haven’t wanted to put them back up. With so much of our lives online now, there’s not so much need to have photos on the wall anymore. So I took out the photos and stored them in an envelope and the frames are going to charity. I’m getting some new storage boxes from Ikea for bits that I need to keep. I’ve thrown out or donated a lot of the kid’s old toys. I found a stash of belts that are all too small for me – if I do lose weight at some point I’ll buy another belt!

So I’ve made a start, and once you start and get into the rhythm, it gets a lot easier. I hope to see you in the Facebook group in the coming days, let’s get de-cluttering!
