5 activities to do with your children this summer

How to have an awesome family summer this year!

Are you looking for some fun summer activities that you and your children can do this summer? While there are many activities that your kids can do all by themselves, those activities might just be them watching TV or playing video games.

According to an article in Psychology Today, children are actually unfocused and stressed out because of too much time spent with their smartphones, televisions, computers and video games. Unlike the adults who were able to experience being active in outdoor activities while growing up, the children of today are exposed to too much screen time.

Summers are the perfect opportunity to not just bond with your kids but to also have them become more physically active. Here are are some summer kids activities you can do.

  1. Go to the public library and have him/her pick books to read – reading is a skill that your child will use even as an adult. A good activity you can do is to go to your town or city’s public library so that he or she can pick books that they can bring home to read. Because summer is quite long, there is no way you can arrange an activity every day especially if you are also working. A  book can keep your child preoccupied with more than just a gadget and prevent the summer reading gap.
  1. Go camping – if you see that your child is not physically active, camping is a great way for them to get exercise. There’s so much to do when camping, depending on the location you will choose. Activities like hiking, gathering wood for the fire, or even cooking can all be done during camping. They will also learn to be more responsible. You can have them explore their surroundings, and challenge them with some tasks. It’s another activity where you can have them away from their gadgets and appreciate nature instead.
  1. Learn a new skill together – a great way to bond with your kid this summer is to learn a new skill together! It does not have to be complicated. If your child has had an affinity for cooking or the like, why not take a baking class together? If that’s not your cup of tea, there are plenty of activities, like doing crafts, learning how to garden, or learning the basics of a foreign language. Sit down with your child and find your common interests so you can plan what class to take.
  1. Arrange a time for them to spend with their friends -while summer is time to spend with your child, remember that it would also be good for them to interact with children their age. Arrange for a sleepover with your child’s friends and plan activities for them where they can just enjoy time with each other.
  1. Go swimming – what is summer without a trip to the pool or the beach? You can even make it a road trip and plan the perfect beach getaway for you and your family!
