I’m not that overweight, I’m a UK size 16, but even at my skinniest size 8-10, I’ve suffered with sweaty sticky thighs in the summer. Left untended it leads to chafing, stickiness and soreness. I end up either avoiding wearing skirts and dresses, or wearing cycling shorts or leggings underneath, which kind of defeats the object of a floaty skirt. Any fat I have will collect on my inner thighs and hips which leaves me with this problem of thigh chafing, affectionately known as chub rub. I’ve been talking moaning about it over on my Instagram stories, and a lot of you suffer the same fate. So what can we do? Here are some solutions you may not have thought of – I’ll try anything!
#1 Use an anti chafe stick
This seems a popular one, note the ‘men’s’ version is blue and appears to be the same product, but it’s only £11 instead of the pricier pink one at £13.95. Maybe you’re paying for the extra wording of ‘For Her?’
For Her from Body Glide Anti Chafe stick, 42g £13.95
#2 Anti Chafe Knickerboxers from Chaffree
I personally tried out these bad boys, they’re a step up from the cycling shorts or cut off leggings I used to wear, they’re lightweight, anti moisture and pretty darn comfy. Under a long floaty dress it’s what I’d choose. You can get the Chaffree pants in different colours, I chose pink blush because, well pink. Flesh colour seemed too granny like. Here I am wearing them – I’m holding my stomach in and doing my most flattering pose. In a tent.

#3 Bandelettes
Want to look a bit sexier and stop chub rub? Enter Bandelettes, they look like they’ve just cut the top off hold up stockings and that’s pretty much the gist, but you can get different sizes and they promise to stay put and solve the burning issue of your thighs rubbing together. I think they look rather good.

#4 Use deodorant
Apparently using certain deodorants can help. I tried my spray one but it only worked until I started exerting myself in the heat. Maybe a roll on or stick deodorant would work better?
#5 Udderly Smooth Chamois Cream Anti Chafe
This delightfully named product is primarily designed for cyclists and runners but also for those whose thighs touch (aka mermaids). It contains shea butter but is non greasy. At just under £9 it’s one of the cheaper options.
Udderly Smooth 227g Anti Chafing Cream, £8.89.
#6 Surf Butta
Designed for sportsmen and women again, this user friendly stick with the youthful name of Surf Butta comes with a money back guarantee. They also have a heart, with 1% of sales to Camp Jabberwocky, a summer camp for children and adults with disabilities in Vineyard Haven, MA. It’s water and sweat resistant, and paraben free.
#7 Pjuractive Anti Chafing and Blistering Spray
Pjuractive is a spray that works by creating a protective film and acting as a lubricant. Like the other products it’s sweat and water resistant, and helps not only chub rub but also prevents blisters and rubbing from clothing. I’m going to try this for next year.
Pjuractive spray 20ml dispenser, from £7.40.
Have you tried any of these? Any success? What’s your favourite? Let me know I’m not alone by sharing this post or leaving me a comment.
