Valentine’s Day Doily Heart Window Decoration

Sharing is caring!

This is a really simple make you can do with or without children and looks really good hanging in the window.  I opted to paint the doily black but you could leave it white for a lace like effect.

Valentine’s doily hearts – What you need

  • Scissors
  • Doilies
  • Pencil
  • Red cellophane
  • Stapler
  • Ribbon
  • Black paint

How to make doily valentine hearts

Fold a doily into quarters to get the centre point, then draw on half a heart along the folded line.  Cut out along the line and you should have a heart shaped hole in the middle.

I chose to paint ours black to look like a stained glass decoration in the window, but you could leave them white to look like lace.  My daughter had great fun splodging the paint over it and we enjoyed making patterns on the cardboard we put under the doilies to save the table!

You can get red cellophane from craft shops in the floristry or gift section and you can use it for so many things.  Alternatively, you can use tissue paper.  Cut out a square to size to go behind the heart, then glue into place.  Sandwich a second doily to the back, then use the stapler to attach the ribbon like I did, or thread it through the holes to form a loop for hanging.

I think they look great in the window, I put two hanging straight down together, you can make as many as you like and arrange them however you fancy.  Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Crafting!

These are so pretty! Could also be used for an Alice in Wonderland themed party too, Queen of Hearts, and all that 🙂
