It is hard to live an eco-friendly life when you see so many other people not doing their utmost for the planet. And this is where the lesson of setting the example will prove beneficial. We set an example for our children, and we do this in the actions we take and the behaviours we exert. And if you want our children to look after the planet, it doesn’t have to be a devastating lecture on what they would do to the planet if they don’t take action now, but we can do fun things too.

Encouraging Them to Look After the Community

Community initiatives are fantastic for people who want to look after something little. And it is a great little thing for you to do with your child. Helping them to plant a tree or helping them become more aware of everything around them gives them the perspective to help look after the planet in a more thoughtful way. And when it comes to setting examples, you can help to show your child what you are doing on a daily basis. For example, you could sign up here for one of the many community initiatives. Community initiatives require a group of people to sign up, but if you are passionate about saving the planet, going door-to-door is a fantastic thing to do with your child. It truly gives them the experience of what it takes to help, up close and personally.

The Messages in Movies

The great thing about family movie night is that you can help to deliver the message in another way. A fantastic kids movie is The Lorax based on the Dr Seuss book. It is all about the importance of protecting our environment. As parents, we could benefit from using different ways to communicate our beliefs. Movies, television shows, and books will always help.

Live the Life You Want Your Children to Lead

If you want to show your child the benefit of reducing waste, you need to start upcycling and reusing your items. Our children can demand new and shiny toys, but there are so many online marketplaces that sell upcycled toys and clothes. And we’ve got to get this message in as early as possible. There will be a point when they start to ask why their toys look a bit different than their friends’, who had shiny new toys for Christmas or birthdays. But it is about making the message as widely as possible and ensuring it is in every aspect of your lives, not just about you telling them they need to help out.

There will be a time when you have to teach your kids how to do it themselves. It’s not just about the practices from a bit about living and breathing a certain attitude. When we look after our health it will have a positive impact on the planet. It’s never too early to teach our children about looking after the planet, but it’s also never too late.
