Breathe easy at the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca, one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Europe and a Balearic Island jewel. Known for its dreamy all-year-round vacations, a spectacular stretch of coastline, luxury Mallorca villas, and fascinating culture and history, Mallorca is an ideal holiday vacation that won’t break your bank!
Mallorca or Majorca?
Perhaps one of the most common arguments regarding Mallorca is “Is it Majorca or Mallorca?” – so which one is correct? Its Mallorca! Mallorca is the right name for this bustling tourist hotspot, and Majorca is an Anglicised version that directly comes from the island’s British vacationers. Since it is the largest of the Balearic Islands, the word Majorca also has Latin roots suggesting the meaning to be “larger island”.
When to visit Mallorca?
The short answer to this is – all year round! Mallorca is stunning in all seasons, and there is a lot to experience throughout the year. However, the best time to visit this serene sandy landscape is summertime, and it’s no coincidence that Mallorca attracts the most tourists at that time of the year. Many tourists resort to high-rise hotels or get submerged in cool, clear waters taking in the gentle breeze and the view of limestone cliffs nearby.
Best Things to Do When in Mallorca?
The capital city of Mallorca – Palma – and its surrounding areas are vibrant, offering a glimpse into its history and culture. You can enjoy the city’s rust-coloured buildings and unspoiled scenery on foot, or you can visit the Museu Fundación Juan March, which commemorates classic Spanish artists like Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. You can take this up a notch by visiting the architecturally splendid and quaint Cathedral of Santa María and Sant Francesco Church.
Best Places to Stay in Mallorca on a Budget?
In the summertime, many visitors stay at the beach resorts, which are currently under redevelopment to cater to young tourists. From large and spacious hotels like the Playa de Palma to small and familial Hotel Miramar, Mallorca offers something for all its tourists.
Where to Eat and Drink in Mallorca?
Mallorca has some unmissable specialities when it comes to food, and do not worry about eating out in Mallorca; it can be reasonable most of the time! From local bakeries like Fornet de la Soca offering mouthwatering signature Mallorca ensaïmadas and buńuelos to Palma’s supermarkets Mercados Gastronómicos San Juan and Olivar – food and hospitality are at the center in Mallorca. In addition, you can visit bars offering unique twists on classic cocktails and drinks at night.
Is Mallorca Expensive?
Mallorca is a much cheaper alternative to Ibiza – both of which are in Spain. As the years go by, Mallorca has been gaining prominence, and tourists and the island have gotten a reputation of a cheap vacation island. This means that flights, stay and hotels, food, and wine are mostly affordable for an average family vacationing to this island. On top of that, going around on public transport is highly reasonable, and most sightseeing highlights have affordable tickets.
