A few weeks ago I headed up to London for an event with a twist: a burlesque lesson! I love burlesque, the vintage feel to it, how it empowers women to feel body confident and express their sexuality and sensuality. I was really looking forward to it, and to catching up with some blogging buddies. I didn’t know what to expect from it. When we first started, we had props in the shape of feather boas, fans and a headdress. We were all a bit self conscious, despite the glass of champagne we had, but it was broad daylight, not enough booze had been drunk and we didn’t all know each other that well. After learning a few moves and gaining confidence, we were all shimmying about and had discovered our inner burlesque names (mine was Cherry Pop!). We even went for a mini routine. I could imagine myself as a burlesque star, the club seeped in darkness, a smoky haze in the air and some sultry 50’s music playing… then I looked in the mirror and came to my senses! It was great fun though, and I’d recommend it as an activity for a girls day out.

We were there courtesy of TENA lady, to celebrate the launch of their new ad campaign. You may have seen it, there’s a lady dressed in carnival clothes dancing and flirting with a handsome man, her slight bladder weakness not getting in the way of anything. The new TENA lady discreet range is 20% thinner than their old range. We were able to see the difference for ourselves and it’s a vast improvement. I am an occasional wearer of the pantyliner style pads which are similar to these and I was impressed that they’ve managed to get it a lot thinner and therefore more discreet, without compromising on the effectiveness, thanks to something called microPROTEX(TM) technology.
If you’ve had children or are over a certain age, chances are you’ve experienced some form of bladder weakness, with 47% of UK women experiencing it. With the rise of the trampoline park, we all need a stash of these pads, believe me! If you’d like to give them a try you can get a free sample here from the TENA lady website. It comes in plain packaging and doesn’t have any branding on it, so no-one will know. Using a pad specifically for bladder weakness is so much easier than using one for periods, because they are so much more effective. Period pads are made for thicker blood flow, so they can’t cope with the thinner urine leaks. If you’re experiencing leaks or bladder weakness, you need to see your GP to rule out any other problems, and to discuss the severity and cause. It may be that you need to be referred on for treatment or in some cases, surgery. There are other ways you can improve and reduce the amount of leaks, namely pelvic floor exercises. I’ve outlined in this post the main ways to keep your bladder happy.
After our class I became an official Burlesque Baby Bombshell, and have the certificate to prove it.
