Hello!
Well, for those of you who don’t know, I am now officially self employed – I still work as a midwife, but now on the ‘staff bank,’ which means I work as cover for people on sick and annual leave and I can choose more when I work. Plus no more on calls for me! I’m discovering new ways of working from home, as a blogger, freelancer, antenatal educator, breastfeeding advisor and designer (just a few projects!) which is better for me and my family. I have my home office set up – when I say home office, I mean dining room table, complete with laptop, organiser, pen and paper, editorial calendar, camera and phone. It has been one of my goals this year to get more organised with my blog, a mission which I am starting to accomplish, I have an editorial calendar where I schedule and plan my posts as much as I can, and I have lists of my review items in the order they need to be published. I am trying to implement a social media strategy and be more consistent in my approach, rather than posting in short bursts. I have increased my numbers a lot, especially on Instagram, but there is still work to do.
According to Dell, there is only one device we need, rather than all of these separate ones, a point which they illustrate with this infographic.
We don’t even need our purses anymore with smartcash on our mobile devices overtaking it. I’ve already got used to the ease of contactless, I even experience mild annoyance when a retailer doesn’t have contactless! With The Independent now only publishing online, it’s a trend that is set to continue, as we more and more read and keep our preferences on our devices. Want to watch YouTube on a bigger screen? Zap it from your tablet to your TV! We hardly need physical DVDs or Games anymore, they’re all online or on a hard drive, easily downloaded or streamed. Books – while there are many who still love the hard copies (me included), eBooks are now the norm. I agree a tablet takes up less space though than several books, especially when you’re going away on holiday. My phone, or rather mobile device as it is nowadays, will always be close at hand, I think I suffer from mobile phone addiction as I always like to have it to hand. I hope one day there will be a one device fits all – do you have one?
This post is a collaboration with Dell. All opinions are my own.
