Adult colouring books are a great way to focus the mind and body. When you’re pregnant and preparing to meet your baby, whether it’s your first or third, it’s important to take some time out from your busy life and focus on the life within you. One way of doing this is by visualisation and distraction.
Taking time out is easier said than done when you have a never ending to do list and there’s always something to do. If you have a task like colouring, especially a related image to your stage of life, it helps you focus your hands and mind together. You’ll feel in control, and like you’re achieving something, and you’re also relaxing the mind. By choosing an image related to pregnancy and birth and letting yourself be guided by the colours and shapes, any worries or issues you are having to do with this pregnancy or the impending childbirth may surface.
You may find yourself connecting with the baby in ways you hadn’t imagined, and the fears around the birth will not seem so huge. If you discover things you need to discuss further, talk to your Midwife. With our modern western lives we aren’t around birth as much, and only hear whispers and half truths. At the very least, it’s a relaxing activity to help you unwind. When you’re overdue, it’s something to pass the time with that isn’t cleaning out the kitchen cupboards! When you’re done with your colouring sheet, you can cut it out and pin it up somewhere for inspiration.
