Hello Everyone!
Daniel is now 13 months, walking and running everywhere and is like a little whirlwind, he really loves life and is quite the adventurer. We went to a music and movement class the other day and he was the only one who kept trying to escape the children’s centre, he kept going off to see the receptionist ladies and they had to shut the doors! He was also pushing past the other Mums to get where he wanted to go. He joined in with the songs and loved banging two sticks together. The lady who took the class was very enthusiastic and had an almost operatic voice, one you’d expect to hear on an old-fashioned Nanny in a musical. It was quite amusing.

When I pick him up from nursery (he goes two days a week while I work) it’s hit and miss how much sleep he has, sometimes only 20 minutes, sometimes 2 hours. They always tell me he has a lot to say (!) and that he’s had a good day. His cousin also goes for half a day on one of the days he goes and they really love playing chase with each other and laughing.

He has started talking too, which is always amazing – so far he says “yeah,” to pretty much any question, “no, no, no,” usually after I’ve just said it as I pull him away from something dangerous or unsuitable. This morning he pulled a wire attached to the video in our bedroom (retro I know, we still play videos now and then) and almost pulled it down on top of him, he also has been trying to open the microwave door and not succeeding in that but nearly pulling it on himself. Why do toddlers have such a death wish? He also says “ready,” when we say Ready, Steady, Go, “Mama,” and “Dada.” He waves, claps, makes the sign for milk and food and knows the actions to Wind the Bobbin Up, although when I say this to people and start manically singing it, he just stares at me like I’m from Mars.
He loves music and dancing, we have his sister’s keyboard downstairs and he loves ‘playing’ it and dancing along. He’s also worked out how to talk into the microphone, it’s hilarious. His favourite game is chasing his brother and sister around, they pretend he’s a dinosaur and he roars! He loves to give us things and then take them straight back again, but overall his favourite game is when we change his nappy or his clothes, he runs off, checks we’re watching and then runs off again before coming back in with a cheeky grin on his face. We then have to catch him for the next phase! It’s very cute but it does drag out the process…
But who could resist those gorgeous eyes?
Sleep, or rather , lack of it – he’s improved from a few months ago, he does sleep most of the night and in his own bed, some nights even the whole night, but it can’t be relied on, and if there’s any whiff of illness, forget it! I’d say on average he wakes up once a night for a feed, but not every night. I feed him lying down and in our bed so if I fall asleep again he just stays put. If I’m awake and he’s back to sleep I take him off and put him back to bed. He’s gradually going to one nap a day of about 2 hours and cutting out the morning one, but it depends what we’re doing and how early he’s got up, we’ve had a few early starts!

The owner, Mary, got fed up of seeing mass produced fast fashion and decided to produce her own line of clothing. I love the clean simple designs, they’re something different in a world where Disney and TV Characters seem to dominate. I was pleased to see that the baby wear is all 100% cotton. They also do an Earth Positive organic range. I chose the Rockhopper Penguin Design baby vest in a shade of blue that matches Daniel’s eyes perfectly. The penguin reminds me of him with his fuzzy wispy baby hair that often sticks up, and he kind of walks like a penguin at the moment!
I ordered sixe 12-18 months, it came up a little big for him as he’s still a bit on the small side for his age and is sort of in between 9-12 months and 12-18 months, so there’s plenty of growing room.
I think he approves!
You can see what I mean about his hair – it’s growing into a bit of a mullet, I’ll have to get it cut soon. They do Mens, Womens and older boys and girls clothing too, with designs to suit everyone. This baby vest comes in at a price of £12, which I think is reasonable to get an original quality design that you know where it has come from. Mary also writes a parenting blog.
