Broadway Lovers Guide to NYC

Disclosure: collaborative post

If you love theatre and Broadway, you’re not alone. New York City is a popular tourist destination for a lot of reasons, but it certainly helps that it has many of the best theatres and some of the most exciting plays and live performances in the world, let alone on the east coast.

But if you’re thinking about booking a visit to New York to enjoy Broadway, what exactly do you need to know before you go? And whereabouts should you visit? Let’s take a little look!

Broadway Lovers Guide to NYC

1.    Go behind the scenes with Disney

If you want to experience what life is like behind the scenes for your favorite Broadway stars (and Disney characters), you’ll want to go on the Disney on Broadway behind-the-scenes walking tour. Tickets can sell out and can also be pretty pricy, but it’s worth it for an experience you’ll never forget.

2.    Walk the Great White Way

Broadway is nicknamed the Great White Way because of how brightly the lights shine, and one of the best ways to truly experience the Broadway phenomenon is to walk the length of it and to take in the sights and smells. Technically, Broadway is the longest street in the world at over 400 miles, but we’re not suggesting walking the whole thing (unless you’re feeling brave). The mile or two that’s home to most of the theatres and the history will do.

3.    Book in advance

This one is, of course, an absolute must. The later you leave it to plan your visit and to book your tickets, the more you can expect to pay for them – and that’s assuming that your favorite shows haven’t already sold out and that the tickets are still available.

4.    Wear comfortable footwear

What you wear is your business, of course, but we’d definitely recommend trying to pick footwear that’s as comfortable as possible because it’s surprisingly hard work to spend time in and around Broadway. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, but you’ll also be standing up a lot and spending a long time away from the hotel. The last thing that you want to do is to regret your footwear choice.

5.    Hop on a theatre cruise

One of the best things about cruising from NY is that there are so many different providers, each serving different locations. As if that wasn’t enough, different operators also specialize in different types of service, and if you’re lucky then you’ll be able to find a theater cruise or even a murder-mystery cruise in the vein of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.

Conclusion

If you’re thinking about booking a cheap trip to New York City, remember that you can often save a little money by booking in advance and taking advantage of special offers. This is particularly important when you’re hoping to check out the theater, because the earlier you book the tickets, the cheaper they tend to be.

Other than that, you’re pretty much ready to start working on your itinerary, so please feel free to take the suggestions on our list and to build on it until you’ve planned your perfect holiday in the Big Apple. Happy travels!
