Could You Turn Your Interest in Relationships Into A Career?

If you love matchmaking and helping people with their relationships you could turn it into a career - here are some ideas to make it happen.

This is a collaborative guest post.

Do you love reading about the highs and lows of celebrity love lives and imagine the advice you would give to the stars to help them navigate their rocky relationships? Do you find yourself sharing articles about love and relationships on social media all the time? Do you always want to help your friends with their dating and relationship problems?

Some people have a natural interest in and affinity with human relationships and these people are often those who also like talking through other people’s problems and lending a sympathetic ear – but also helping find solutions. They are interested in the psychology behind love and family life, and in what people can do to be happier in their own relationships.

If this sounds like you, then have you ever considered studying for a career where you could help people with love and relationships for a living? There are lots of careers related to this, but here are some examples:

Marriage Counselor

Marriage and relationship counselors or couples therapists help people in relationships get to the bottom of their problems, communicate better, and take positive steps toward a more harmonious life at home. To be a good marriage counselor, you need to be good at listening without judging and be a good mediator. You will also need qualifications before you can start operating as a professional relationship counselor, as obviously, this is very much a position of trust.

Social Worker

A social worker deals with all kinds of situations, though there are those who specialize in specific areas. A lot of social work is around family relationships, and this could be an interesting field for you if you are very interested in how people interact and their psychology. Along with being calm, patient, non-judgmental, and a good listener, you’ll also need to be able to cope with stressful situations. If you’re in the US, you can begin on the path to becoming a social worker by doing a relevant course, for example, an online masters in social work. An online MSW with a good college like Rutgers Online can be a great way to fit studying for your social work career in with an existing job or family life, as you won’t need to go to study at a university campus. If you’re in the UK, you’ll need an approved degree in social work to become a qualified social worker.

Love Blogger

If you think you already have plenty of wisdom and good advice to offer people about dating and relationships, or you think you have experiences that could be useful to others, you can start a blog writing about them online or making videos. If people like what you have to say you could gain a big following and people will start to come to you with questions or requests for advice. You could become a modern day, online agony aunt or uncle!

These are just a few ideas about jobs where you get to use your interest in love, relationships, and families to build a career you’ll find fascinating and enjoyable, and where you’ll also get to make a positive difference in people’s lives!
