Dating Changes after the Lockdown

Disclosure: collaborative post

The divorce rate has gone up since the lockdown. After spending all this time with your spouse, many couples have reached the conclusion that it is the end of the road for them. Maybe this is you? Have recent events brought feelings to a head? It’s like Christmas when tensions rise and you realise, is this what you want out of life? Is there something better that is waiting for you out there? Philosophical questions or real-life dilemmas, it is true for many couples.

Whether you’re married or not, maybe you’ve been together for a few months but during lockdown you haven’t missed each other as much as you thought you would, or you’ve been thrown to living together and it hasn’t worked out.

It’s time now to really think about what you want out of a partner. Do you want a partner to share all your interests, or a companion to be around when you need them? Not everyone is the same, and more often than not there are compromises to be made, even in the most perfect of pairings. Do you see yourselves living together or would you prefer separate homes? Is an initial attraction paramount to you, or is friendship and values the most important? You have to find the prospect of sharing a bed together somewhat appealing otherwise it’s just not going to work.

The fun part!

Next comes the fun part, in my eyes, like a cosmic shopping mall you can browse the profiles on dating websites to see what catches your eye. I think the thrill of the chase is the most fun part, seeing who you might fancy, then chatting and finding out why they are single 😂 but not always. There are genuinely nice guys out there.

How is dating going to change with Coronavirus about?

Dating sites, for example, we love dates have had to adapt to the changing times. They are all showing disclaimers about social distancing, along with the normal disclaimers about being careful how and where you meet up. Is your date a key worker, or a part of the vulnerable group and needs to shield themselves? You must think about all of these things before agreeing to meet up.

You might like to video call them first and see what the chemistry is like. Do they have any annoying habits, or are they nothing like their photo? I must admit I would prefer dating in a time of lockdown because if it’s not going the way you thought, it’s much easier to terminate a video call or cut it short than a physical date. There’s also texting, messaging and audio phone calls to get to know people. By the time lockdown is over, you will know each other really well and have built up a foundation.

The reality of Coronavirus is that there are likely to be social distancing measures in place for a while yet, and even with a vaccine, it may not protect you from the mutations of the virus. Being creative in how we date looks like it might be here to stay for a while yet.
