It’s coming up to our 11th wedding anniversary in April, we’re still going strong despite the odds. We’ve had our ups and downs of course but I feel really secure in our relationship now, we are true partners. We don’t like each other at times but we always love each other! With three small children we’d of course like more quality time together rather than crossing eyes over holding down a squiggly pooey baby (who wouldn’t), so how can we make time when there never seems to be any?
- Plan ahead – find a date and time when you can get babysitters, it doesn’t have to be an evening, an afternoon together can work wonders.
- If you’re going to have a date night in, make sure both of you have clear schedules, no deadlines to meet, try and make sure there’s nothing urgent that needs doing, make sure the basic housework is done (by either one of you or whip round together and do it) so that you can focus on each other without having any niggling thoughts at the back of your mind.
- Ban the tech! I am so guilty of looking at my phone or laptop regularly, so make a screen ban, even if it’s just for an hour. You may actually have to talk to each other, but once you get over that, you’ll remember why you liked them – he’s kind of funny and a good listener.
- Dress as if you were going out, make an effort – it’ll make you feel special
- Start early – as soon as the kids are in bed, it helps if you’re cooking together or doing an activity to keep you going.

I managed to make it into a heart shape! Ahh, romance isn’t dead.
They tasted pretty yummy and we had fun making them. We used the prompts and had fun reminiscing, although he couldn’t really remember what he first noticed about me, but he did remember what he asked me on trivial pursuit when we first met, I didn’t!
