5 ways you haven’t thought of yet to make extra money

This is a much written about topic, including from me – I’ve written about making money in maternity leave and when you’re a stay at home Mum, and some of these methods of making a little extra money or side hustle overlap, but this time I’m looking at those that are a little different to give you a side income or even make ends meet.

1. Become a TV and Film Extra

Sign up to become an extra! It’s a fun way to make extra money and you get a lovely day or two out meeting new people and dressing up. I’ve been a nurse several times, a midwife, and even a couple of period pieces. I’ve even been a pregnant Mum on Call the Midwife. The pay is around £150 for the day.

2. Investigate your finances

Yes, you’ve been through your outgoings and incomings, noted what you don’t need, you’ve switched energy and broadband suppliers, but what about looking into a mis-sold pension or looking into any benefit claims you are due. I recently got a letter saying they had miscalculated my tax credits from years ago and it turned out to be worth £300.

3. Write an Ebook

You don’t have to be a master writer – what skills do you have that people want and are they in demand? Ebooks are often shorter than print books, so they can be written easier. You can self publish on Amazon very easily and if you are lucky, it will take off and earn you some money. Are you good at fiction or do you have a special interest that you can share? Have a go! I write romance novels and make a side income from them.

4. Baking

Do you enjoy home baking? If you have a local deli or farm shop, they might take on your home baking efforts to sell. Artisan home baking is becoming more popular and people like to support small and local, it’s greener too.

5. Taking Pictures

If you’re a dab hand at photos or an enthusiastic amateur, there are places that will buy your photos, like Shutterstock and others like Pexels that offer free photos but will ask for a donation to the photographer. If your photos are popular you’ve got yourself a side hustle. Landscapes and people in scenarios are popular stock photos.

So there you go, some more interesting ways to make a little side income, and who doesn’t like making extra money?!
