Yes, I know – but hear me out. When you’re a kid and you go around with a broom pretending to be Cinderella, then you grow up and discover it’s not so fun after all. Man or woman, when you have your own place cleaning just a little becomes a necessity. When you have children, they produce so much more mess and dirt everywhere!
I always try and choose flooring that’s dark in colour or has in built dirt as my mother in law would say, so as to minimise cleaning. I’m loving my black oven and hob, it hides a multitude of sins. I did the same when I chose my kitchen floor, it’s a vinyl covering which emulates black marble tiles. The other parts that may need sweeping and mopping are my living room and hallway, since we had the walls and ceilings done, we have bare floorboards plus some extra paint splodges. I’m working on getting the funds together to replace the flooring.
Have you tried a mop sweeper with built in spray yet? There are several on the market, but I’ve been trying out this one from Wizmops. Prior to this I’ve tried a traditional grey stringy mop, a jay cloth mop and one of those sponge mops. The first ones you need a bucket for, and the water gets pretty grimy straight away, meaning you either push dirty water around or you have to change the water. The sponge mop at least has a handle you can squish the water out of.
I’m in danger of sounding like a 50’s housewife, but I love my new mop. It’s like one of those floor sweepers you used to see from the caretakers at school, with the added bonus of adding floor cleaner to the bottle and then squirt away. There’s no buckets or wringing required. Just squirt the cleaner via the trigger at the top and sweep away. I used my all purpose cleaner from Ecoegg which is still going strong and may even outlive me, and filled the plastic bottle attached to the Wizmop. I sprayed and mopped my kitchen, hall and living room and the level reduced by half. If you are particularly over zealous with the spray you may use it all in one session. The mop head folds up so you can store it easily.
Here’s me using the mop, you can see the box on the counter, that’s how big it is:
It’s so easy even a child could do it!
A couple of close ups:
You also get a window cleaning attachment and an extra microfibre pad, so one can be in the wash whilst you’ve still got one to use. At around £22 it’s good value kit, and particularly good for those with not much storage space. It comes in a box and you clip the pieces together very easily. I’ve got a discount code specially for you my lovely readers which gives you 15% off, all you have to do is enter the code 15OFFWIZ at the checkout. Any issues give me a shout. Have fun cleaning!
