Exterior design ideas to give your garden an uplift

Disclosure: collaborative post

Yes, summer is slowly ending, the days are getting colder but the joy of having a beautiful garden is something you can experience all-year-round. You might have jumped onto the green thumb trend during lockdown and now you see your garden with a fresh pair of eyes, which makes you want to continue transforming your garden space. There are plenty of ways to give your outdoor area an uplift, here are some of my favourite!

Tidy it up

As Ideal Home mentions tidying up “won’t add anything new to your garden, but giving the space a good straighten up could help you give your outdoors a new lease of life.” This might mean fixing that broken fence panel, cleaning out your greenhouse or any other gardening chore you might have on your list.

Add a centrepiece

Installing an outdoor structure as a centrepiece is a great way to add character and function to your garden. Retractable roofs by Designer Shade are the perfect choice! These are bespoke weatherproof roof pergolas which feature a retractable and tilting roof that can easily open or close, depending on the weather conditions. Plus, when combined with side screens, lighting and heating, you will create an outdoor/indoor retreat in the middle of your garden that you can enjoy all-year-round.

Make your garden glow

Use outdoor lights, such as outdoor fairy lights, to add a special element to your garden. As House Beautiful says on this article, “you can arrange them through tree or shrub branches, attach them to fences and furniture, or suspend them from canes stuck into the ground.”

Plan ahead

If you are passionate about gardening, planning ahead is essential. The Royal Horticultural Society recommends collecting and storing seeds of “hardy annuals and perennials for sowing later in the autumn.” Some good plants to try include poppies, pot marigolds, columbines and more.

Welcome wildlife

Install bird feeders around your garden to attract and welcome wildlife. Not only will this give you an opportunity to observe the wonders of nature and learn more about different species of birds but it will also help parent birds feed their chicks.
