Getting our costumes ready for Halloween

It’s that time of year where we get our spook on and get ready for Halloween. A few years ago I swore I’d never go trick or treating with the kids and preferred to stay in and give out sweets to any who knocked. Fast forward to now and for the last 3 years since we’ve lived in our house, we’ve gone trick or treating! Our neighbourhood is so friendly and anyone who has Halloween decorations up is fair game. We have pumpkins ripe for picking on our allotment which we carve and display outside. We have a bag full of Halloween costumes and decorations, and the other day I got it out of the garage to have a rummage through, with the help of Phoebe, who loves a chance to get dressed up.

I found a cute pumpkin outfit that Daniel had worn last year which I’m going to pass on, and discovered some decorations that I bought last year. Phoebe has 2 witches outfits, some spider tights and a pumpkin dress and now she has a new addition, this rather fetching skeleton tutu dress from Tickled Pink Fancy Dress. She loves it, and we like the layered tutu netting. It doesn’t have pants attached so it can be worn with leggings or tights. You could add accessories and paint your child’s face with these face painting ideas.

On with the sorting, with a little help from her friend, we found William’s ‘costume,’ which is a black t shirt with axe wounds and a toy axe, he hates dressing up so this is the best I can get out of him. It looks like Daniel may be discovering he doesn’t actually like fancy dress either, because I was desperately trying to get him to wear his spider outfit but he was having none of it. It’s so cute with it’s little purple hat on the hood. Maybe he’ll go for it on the night! I managed to catch him in William’s old Dracula outfit though before he had a chance to pull it off.

I hope you have better luck than me in dressing your tribe up for Halloween, I have an old red dress as an ex-hire from a local fancy dress shop a few years ago and I drag it out every year. Happy Halloween!

Disclosure: we were gifted the halloween outfits for this post, all opinions are my own.
