From Blog to Business: How Can You “Upgrade?”

The blogging world is positively booming, and there is no sign of slowing down. Blogging is one of the best ways to have a relationship between you and your customer base. And if you are looking to expand your blog into a business because it can monetize your daily ramblings, what do you really need to consider?

Start Treating it Like a Real Business

Some people want to keep their blog small, but when you are treating your business like a proper entity that starts to earn money, you’ve got to give it the goods to back it up. Sometimes you need to incorporate solid marketing tactics and work with digital agencies, and sometimes you need to work with managed IT services to give your technology the protection it needs. But the reality is that if you want to start treating your blog like a proper business, you’ve got to invest a lot into it, not just financially, but emotionally as well. You may think that your business is too small, but if you start thinking like this, you will never expand.

Making the Best Investments

There are so many resources to build your business online but you need to remember that investments are not just about the business, but it’s about yourself. When it comes to blogging, there are so many conferences out there, and they are solid investments because you are going to be able to come back fired up ready to monetize your blog in other ways. Many blogs go down the affiliate link route, but you may also need to start diversifying your services. For example, bloggers provide a lot of tutorials. So if you have a skill, for example, copywriting for search engine optimization, this will be another way to add extra income.

Addressing Your Strengths

You need to diversify the blog, but this needs to be done after you’ve discovered what your inherent strengths are. When we start a blog, it’s got to be a logical extension of our personality, and in some ways, we can benefit from not overthinking it. Focusing on a specific niche or topic that your current audience is already engaged with can help you to pay attention to the fundamental tenets that the best customers are always the ones you’ve already engaged. One of the biggest oversights in business is thinking that we need to keep getting new customers. But when we’ve already hooked one customer, it’s important to never lose them. You can find ways to improve your current content, and this could mean repurposing it, but also making sure that you start to engage in other ways. It’s important to expand on your customer base, but it’s about struggling the balance between looking for new blood while also not neglecting your current fan base.

It’s important to remember that a successful blog will always have a unique voice. Turning your blog into a business means you can monetize it, but you cannot stray from what you started it for in the first place. You’ve got to be true to yourself, focus on the followers, and do not follow the money.
