Culinary chic: 3 ways to up your kitchen design game

If you're designing your kitchen, there are 3 key areas you need to focus on. Get these right and you're winning at the design game!

We’re in the middle of a kitchen revamp, currently in no-oven-chaos-mode. It’s a small space, so we’re thinking very carefully about the layout and design. The chances are your kitchen is one of the busiest, most well-used rooms in your home, so it’s important that this area is planned to perfection. If you’re keen to take your kitchen design game up a level, keep reading. In this post, you’ll find three ways you can turn your cooking space into a culinary chic dream. Here’s hoping.

Install super stylish cabinets

Since your kitchen cabinets are a major feature of your cooking space, why not update them? Installing new, super stylish cupboards is an effective way to enhance your decor. To make sure you’re picking the right units for your space, it pays to think about the look you’re trying to achieve. For example, if you’re keen to create a cosy, farmhouse vibe, you’ll want to steer clear of slick, glossy cupboards. Instead, you could go for solid wood kitchen cabinets to help you nail your desired kitchen aesthetic. We’re keeping the cupboard doors we have as they’re solid and in good condition, if a little outdated. We’re planning on painting them and changing the handles to give them an updated look.

Go for amazing light fixtures

Lighting plays an important role in any cooking space and it’s essential that your illumination levels are spot on. Upgrading your lighting situation can instantly heighten your kitchen style, as well as help you create the perfect atmosphere for when you’re preparing and cooking meals, eating, hanging out with your family and entertaining guests. From under-cabinet spotlights, to inbuilt ceiling lights, to hanging pendant lamps, there are a wide variety of stunning fixtures you could go for. When it comes to choosing the perfect light fittings, make sure you pick designs that will complement your overall cooking space decor.

Refurb with fabulous flooring

No kitchen is complete without a flawlessly finished floor, so if you want your cooking space to look amazing from top to bottom, you could refurbish this part of the room. Changing up your flooring is a guaranteed way to enhance the look and feel of the whole area, and you shouldn’t struggle to find surfaces that are both stylish and practical. Ideally, your floor should be durable and hard wearing, and it should be able to cope with potential splashes, spills and splatters that may come its way on a daily basis. The good news is, there are many different flooring options for you to choose from that are as functional as they are attractive. For example, wood-effect laminate looks fantastic and is extremely easy to clean, robust and long-lasting. We’ve gone for a good quality vinyl for our kitchen in a mock slate effect. It’s made such a difference.

By making just these three changes, you’ll be able to turn your kitchen into an undeniably chic cooking space.
