With my eldest, William (7) getting more and more aware of the internet and using it for his games, we’re really conscious of Internet safety and security. We’re conscious we need parental controls, not just on the PC but on other devices too. We’ve always had some form of anti-virus software to keep our computer running smoothly and to combat attack, like a row of soldiers keeping villains out. One of my friends once got a virus that completely froze her computer and took sensitive information from it, including bank details. That’s basically my worst nightmare! We’ve been taking a look and installing McAfee’s Total Protection and Livesafe software. I’ll talk to you about the two and the differences and how we found the installation process. With both methods, you get a code which you use to download from the McAfee website.

You can protect unlimited devices and you get 1 year subscription. It’s an instant download and you get instant access. The download process was really easy and it immediately let me know of a couple of minor issues. With both products you get a cardboard envelope like the pictures above which has your personal ‘key’ which is your code to get the download and is unique to you. It gives you the website to go to and enter the code. When you download it, you have the option to automatically renew your subscription, so it’s one less thing to worry about, or you can skip that step. The password manager is very useful when you have lots of passwords to remember, or want to generate secure passwords – McAfee will generate them and remember them for you.

So with Livesafe, you get the added features of a personal cloud locker and biometric file access. So what are they when they’re at home? Well, the personal cloud locker is a place to keep all your secure documents and pictures, with face and voice recognition (biometric) for added security. You can cover unlimited devices for both products, that’s your PC, laptop, smartphones, Mac, as many as you and your family own. We have one laptop and 5 phones, and I know this is going to grow as the children grow up. We’re already fighting over laptop use, so that’s next on my list and if I ever get a home office, I know I’ll want a big powerful desktop PC.
I’m pleased I’ve now got protection and parental controls accross our devices now, it was pretty foolproof even for me.
