My earring must-haves for every occasion

Disclosure: collaborative post

When I was in my late teens early twenties I had a total of nine ear piercings – five in one ear and four in the other. I loved showing my personality in my jewellery and I liked the way they look and made me feel. Like a badass! I would wear studs and drop earrings. I call them dangly earrings – it’s seriously what my Mum called them and that’s what I do too, doesn’t everyone? 🙂

Although I no longer use all my piercings, I still love wearing earrings for fashion and self expression. I don’t like wearing bracelets but I love charms so wearing earrings that means something to me are important. Of course sometimes it’s just to accessorise the perfect outfit. Here are my earring must haves for different occasions.

Simple diamond studs

You can’t go wrong here with diamond studs, and diamond jewellery in general. They go with any outfit and immediately add that touch of class. If you can’t afford real diamond earrings then cubic zirconia will do just the same. Just make sure the metal you use is of good quality otherwise you’ll end up with an infection or at best, an itchy sore ear.

Hoop earrings

You can go wild with big gold hoops or more classic with small silver hoops that hug the ear. There are so many different variations to go for. I have some small silver wide hoop earrings and some bigger gold hoop earrings and they go with everything.

Tassel earrings

Feathers and tassels are still big this season on earrings. They add that boho chic element to your look. I love a bold red tassel, and they look great in the summer.

Geometric shapes

Another look in fashion this season again is geometric shapes – triangles, hexagons, pentagons, they all look good. Nice and simple and elegant.

Pearls

I’m not talking about Granny style pearls, they have now been given a modern twist and look much more updated. Take a look at these ones, combined with the gold and heart shape brings it right up to date.

Charms and characters

As I mentioned before I like to have earrings that mean something, even if it only means something to me. I like to make a nod to my favourite fantasy characters or something that means that I’ve overcome a struggle. At the moment I’m into witchcraft and fairy tales from watching Once Upon a Time and The Vampire Diaries, so anything pagan, wiccan or to do with fairy tale characters is calling to me. My favourite pairing on the show is Captain Swan, which is characterised by a fish hook and a swan. It won’t mean much to anyone else but it does to me! You can play around with what you like and change them according to your mood.

Initials and names

Why not have your initials, a loved one or a child’s initials on your earrings? You can keep it to studs or have them inside a disc or hoop, make them as subtle as you like or bold and in your face. It’s all about expressing your personality.
