Gardens take maintenance, most of us know that. That also goes for any fixtures we design and install within it. This might include the greenhouse you use for planting vegetables, or climbing frames installed for your children to have fun within a safe environment. Yet over time, gardens, especially gardens that have had a fair amount of thought put into them, can become outdated. It might be that your children are now late teenagers, and have little desire to climb up a child’s slide, particularly one gathering rust in the garden.
Perhaps the goalposts your son asked for are now rarely used, and the water feature seems to be stained and covered with moss. Perhaps you’ve moved into a new home and have noticed the prior tenant seemed happy to leave a disheveled shed in their rarely-attended-to garden space, and that leaves you more work to do.
No matter your justifications, restoring a garden space to its former glory can be a great deal of fun, and provide a fantastic result. It can be hard to know what to do with the space, especially if you’re looking to avoid cheap installations that age poorly as some of the examples above. With that in mind, please consider our humble advice:
Tree Health, Restoring Health & Pulling Weeds
A garden’s condition often primarily depends on the little, sustaining efforts placed towards maintenance, rather than a massive water feature, a koi pond, or any other expensive investment. It might be, for instance, that after years of hosting a climbing frame for your children, a large shed that has gone unused, or even just furniture in the same place, the grass may be yellowed within a given area and in need of real attendance.
Laying down real turf to replace the healthy grass presence is key here. You may also find that taking a diligent effort towards pulling out weeds at the root can help prevent them from regrowing, while certain formulas can be applied to large weed growths, killing them outright. It’s also very important to consider how a tree surgeon may help your garden, especially if you have a large treeline on your property. Tree rot can become a major problem and give off toxins that could harm the health of any occupants in your garden, or spread to other trees nearby. It may be that the felling of a tree in a safe manner is the most essential measure to take here.
Larger Communal Fixtures
A garden can be designed to look nice, but ultimately, it’s a perfect place to spend time with friends and family, too. Figuring out which communal features are important to you, then, is key. For some, this might involve simple garden furniture which looks great and can seat a number of people. This might include a large table that may be able to hold a light parasol, providing shade in the heat if necessary.
For others, a fire pit can be a nice way to provide a place to grill meats and place other cooking equipment, with a circled furniture setup necessary for relaxing in if necessary. For the ultimate in luxury and enjoyment at an affordable price, however, we would certainly recommend a beautiful garden bar. Here you can enjoy a fantastic, perfectly arranged social area with storage space for your spirits and other liqueurs. Making the most out of summer, lazily chatting with a beautiful drink, is more than possible, and grants you a beautiful, novel construction that raises your property value.
Garden Flooring Adjustments
It’s a great idea to think of the garden flooring adjustments that are important to you. These can depend based on your staging area and pathways. For instance, the ‘flooring’ you use might involve bringing in new wooden chips to line your garden path.
Or, it might mean reframing a beautiful patio space serving as a staging area overlooking the garden, or a well-constructed garden deck you can entertain on comfortably. The grounding of your garden will define its utility in the best way.
Flower Decorations
It’s certainly a nice idea to think of the flower decorations that can redefine our space and help trim it beautifully as we relaunch this environment anew. From climbing frames to hanging baskets, you’ll find a range of quality and beautiful elements, playing with colour and gradients, which can help showcase your tastes as a homeowner. Consider finding inspiration for that ahead of time.
With this advice, you’re certain to restore your garden space to its former glory.
