A couple of weeks ago we had one of those magical days out – we went to Margate beach. It started off threatening rain and we had a picnic in the sunken gardens at Westgate on Sea before deciding to call it quits and go to the shell grotto instead of our planned beach trip. Then as we were driving to the grotto the weather brightened and we passed Margate beach which looked so inviting we changed our plans and parked up. We were with family (cousins), we had such a lovely day, the children splashed about in the sea, made sandcastles (including obligatory moat), ate ice creams and generally made lasting memories. Here are some lovely photos I managed to capture of our day.

We’d been sent the Interplay pocket microscope to take a look at, and this was the perfect opportunity to give it a try ‘in the field.’ We made a little video showing you what it can do and how to use it, then we gathered some specimens at the beach. Excuse the way it just cuts out, my battery died at the end!
It’s a nice little learning toy, and they enjoyed it as you can see. It’s a little hard to get the specimen in view as there’s nothing to stabilise the slide, but if you’re out and about and want to examine something closely, it’s perfect.
