As your blog grows, you might start to need some help. This is especially true if you want to start multiple blogs because they’re going to be difficult to run on your own. Hiring employees might be an option if you’ve built a successful blogging empire, but it’s expensive to take on permanent employees. What’s likely to be much more affordable to you is hiring freelancers to help you with your blog. Freelancers can help you with a range of tasks, from writing blog posts to creating images and graphics, editing and managing your blog, marketing and promotions, and much more. If you want to work with freelancers, there are a few important things that you can remember.

Know Where to Find Freelancers
Finding the right freelancers is the first step when you want to hire people to help you with your blog. There are various ways to find the people you need and make sure they meet your needs. One option is to look for websites where you can post your requirements and allow freelancers to bid on your projects, such as Freelancer.com or Upwork. Another option is to manually search for whatever type of freelancer you need. Use your preferred search engine to find the type of freelancer you’re looking for and use any important qualifying words or phrases such as location or what type of work you want them to do.
Budget for Freelance Work
When you’re searching for freelancers, you need to have an idea of what you can spend. You will find people at all price points but there are certain things you’ll need to keep in mind. On the lower end, you will generally find people who are new to their profession and still learning or people in countries that can afford to charge less. If you’re looking for someone with more experience who will produce quality work, you can expect to pay more. If you’re not sure how much you should be paying, you can usually find information and statistics on average rates.
Match Freelancers to Your Needs
Finding a freelancer to meet your needs can be the tricky part. In fact, you can be overwhelmed with options but pinning down someone who’s a good match takes time. You need someone who has the right skills and experience, is available when you need them, and can give you a quote that’s in your budget too. It’s even more important to find the right person if you want to work with them long-term too. Start by defining what you want from your freelancer, the parameters of your project, and what you want to ask them when you get in touch to ask about their services.
Manage the Legal Stuff
When you’re working with a freelancer, it’s important to have a contract in place. The freelancer will often send you a contract to sign. You might provide the freelancer with your own contract instead or in addition to the one that they give you. This can include an agreement about the scope of the work, an NDA, or other important contracts. If you’re working with multiple freelancers, it can become difficult to keep track of all your contracts. But you can use software for easier contract management for small business needs. A contract management tool will make it easier to take care of the legal aspect of working with freelancers. You want to protect yourself and your blog, and it also protects the freelancer at the same time.

Provide Them with Important Materials
It’s important that you provide your freelancer with the essential materials that they need to do their job. What these materials are will vary depending on what you’re paying them to do. But you might give them information about your brand and branding guidelines, including things like your brand tone of voice or brand colours. You might give them a brief for something that you want them to write or design for you. This could include examples of similar things that you like or research that you want them to use. Make sure they have everything that they need to fulfil your brief.
Find the Best Way to Communicate
Communicating with freelancers often means only talking to them remotely. This can offer some advantages but sometimes might make things difficult too. Finding the best ways to communicate will help things to run smoothly. An initial phone call can be handy to get to know each other, especially if you’ll be working together for a while. However, it’s not essential and some people are fine with communicating using email or perhaps a messaging app. It can be useful to use a project management tool or something similar too. This will allow everyone to see what needs to be done and how far certain tasks have come.

Understand Your Freelancer’s Work
When working with a freelancer, you can help to make your relationship a lot smoother by making an effort to understand their work. This might be easier when you’re hiring someone to do something that you already know how to do. But if you’re hiring someone with a different skill set to you, you can end up misunderstanding how their job works and what they’re capable of. Making an effort to understand the basics and listening to what they tell you will help to keep your relationship smooth. You don’t want to end up on Clients from Hell.
Pay on Time
Lastly, be kind to your freelancers and make sure that you pay on time. When you negotiate the work to be done, you should confirm what payment is due and when you need to pay it. Be sure to pay attention and pay your freelancers on the date agreed rather than making them wait. If you leave it too late, they could charge you a late fee, so it doesn’t benefit you to delay payment.
Before you start hiring freelancers for your blog, make sure you know what you’re looking for and what you need to provide them to get the work you want.
