Teletubbies Book Review

The Teletubbies craze never really went away since the original Teletubbies came out nearly 20 years ago, but now they’ve had a makeover and have been remade for the new generation, with the new series having bounced onto our screens on cBeebies last November. I remember when it first came out, there was uproar at how silly they seemed, and Tinky Winky’s handbag caused a stir, but they have stayed the distance and continue to be more popular than ever. Phoebe still likes them at age 5 and Daniel is now being introduced to their charms – he’s not a great TV watcher but he does delight in saying ‘Eh-oh’ to the Teletubbies and it will occupy him for 5 minutes or so while I quickly load or unload the dishwasher without his help!

It’s not just something to keep them entertained though, the makers behind Teletubbies have thought carefully about the redesign and incroporated modern technology and early learning goals into the programme. Dr Jacqueline Harding, an early years specialist, explains how, and she has some information and tips on learning through play in this video:

We love books in our house, and read not just at bedtime but at other times of the day too, Daniel loves turning pages and he’s started pointing to the characters and tries to tell a story in his own way! We’ve been taking a look at the books from Egmont, we got the Teletubbies little library, which is six little books in their own little box, showcasing the different characters in their own adventures. They’re great to whip out and have a quick story, toddlers also love taking them in and out of the box like a puzzle in itself. Next we looked at Teletubbies Magic Watering Can, with Po’s watering can getting out of control, and Teletubbies Favourite Things, where we take a look at all the character’s special things. Both books are durable board books that are bright and colourful, with simple stories to capture little one’s imagination. They’ve all been really popular in our house for the two youngest. Phoebe loves reading now she’s started school, she has her favourite cuddly Teletubby, Laa Laa, who she likes to read to. We’ve been taking advantage of the nice weather and reading outside.

Here’s your chance to win the same book bundle we’ve been enjoying, 2 board books and the little library with 6 mini books. Good Luck! Entry via the rafflecopter widget, UK entry only.
