We are charity shop and jumble sale fans in the Midwife and Life house and a few weeks ago we got a great bargain – an orange ride on tractor for £1. It’s been well used but still works fine and Daniel loves it. Not long after we got offered the Toddlebike 2 to review. They come in 3 colours – blue, red and pink. We went for red.
It’s described as a ‘Pre balance bike,’ so before they graduate to a balance bike. It’s pretty similar to all the ride ons though, except it’s designed like a bike. A balance bike is ideal for practicing bike-related balance.
It’s lightweight and compact, weighing in at less than 1kg. The age range is down as from when they’re comfortable walking until about aged 3. It’s quite small, at 20cm height, so for a taller child they may grow out of it quicker. Daniel rides it confidently, but needs to sit nearer the handlebars which makes him sit off the seat – apparently, that’s normal for smaller riders and as he grows he’ll sit further back.
He has really enjoyed it alongside his tractor, and he and Phoebe like having races up and down the hallway, taking turns what they sit on! Whenever Daniel has friends around they’re very keen to have a go on the Toddlebike2. Designed by a UK Mum who was inspired by her own children’s experience of a similar bike abroad, her vision has come to life. It’s easy to set up – it comes as is, and no building is required.
It’s easy to clean and quite striking looking when we go out and about. It’s designed for indoor and outdoor use and is safety tested for the UK market. They offer a 3-year guarantee so it’s definitely toddler-proof! They are available direct from the Toddlebike2 website or from John Lewis.
