Everyone wants to think that their home is unique. You want it to be special to you and your family, and not just a clone of other people’s. However, when you shop in the same places and read the same magazines as everyone else, it’s not always easy to create a unique home. There are some tricks you can try, though.
Include Personal Touches
Including personal items in your home is one of the most obvious and also easiest ways to make your home unique. No one else has photos of your family (unless they’re also family) and items you’ve collected from your travels. No one else has a framed, pressed flower from your wedding bouquet or your baby’s first shoes hanging on the wall.
Do Some DIY
You don’t have to be super artistic or skilled in DIY to make some unique items to place in your home. With some easy tutorials, you can make something that no one else has and that has a personal touch from you. You can make anything from a cushion to a work of art to frame and hang.
Don’t Be Scared to Experiment
If you’re determined to play it safe, it can be difficult to create a unique home. You might end up just following along with the crowd. If you’re willing to take some risks and experiment, you could have much better luck. Widen your style selections, for example have you heard of Artemide lamps? They’re different and not everyone will have them. How about an acrylic splashback in the kitchen instead of tiles? There’s a limit to how much IKEA everyone can take.
Find Inspiration in Fun Places
There are so many places to look for home inspiration, and you don’t have to stick with the usual blogs and magazines. Try looking at some fun resources that take a creative approach, like this one from Factory Flooring Direct.
