What To Do When You First Move Into Your Home

Moving into your first home is an incredibly exciting time? You’ve bought the house and closed on it, and now’s your chance to make the entire property your own. However, in this excitement, it’s very easy to forget about what you need to do to get the house under control. And that’s why this post is here – don’t let your new home shine and dazzle you too much before you’ve completed the checklist below!

Get to Know Where the Utilities are

You never know when you’re going to need to switch off the boiler or hit the central heating button, and you never know when you’re going to need to hit the stopcock or cool down the water tank. As such, it’s best to go round the property right now and find all of these utilities. It’s best to know their location ahead of time before an emergency occurs, so you can act as fast as possible to prevent damage.

Repair the Yard/Garden

When you bought the home, you probably took a look outside in the garden and saw a lot of potential! You saw a landscape you could turn into a cozy little green paradise, and you’re excited to get started out there with digging and planting. But before you do, make sure you take a look around the yard and the general perimeter to check for gaps, cracks, and poor brickwork.

Because before you plant anything, these things are going to need repairing. You need a good foundation to work with, and without addressing these problems early, it’ll be much harder to garden sustainably and responsibly. You could end up wasting water thanks to a runoff under a fence, or you could get creeping flowers growing all up the house thanks to the cracks in the surface.

It also might be best to find a mobile scaffold for sale and buy it for ease of use here; you never know how high you’ll have to climb to check for necessary repairs, and you don’t want to make your backyard a dangerous place to be.

Clean Each Room

You’ve just moved into your new home, and you can’t be sure how tidy the previous owner left it when they sold it to you. You have no idea what went on in the house, or if those floors have ever seen a good scrubbing! All in all, you need to sanitize for the good of your family.

So now it’s time to get your deep cleaning materials out and go around each room to wipe it down and disinfect as many surfaces as possible. Start at the top of the house, including the attic, and work your way down. This will help you to keep the rubbish moving and keep things clean without making them dirty again.

If you’ve just moved into a new home, make sure you make a checklist to follow. You’ve got a lot of work to put in even before you unpack!
