For the past few weeks I’ve been testing out this anti-ageing collagen boosting cream called XYZ Smart Collagen Luxe Cream. I’m always a bit sceptical of magical creams that prevent or reduce wrinkles and stretch marks, because I think good genes, hydration, little exposure to sunlight, good diet and lack of smoking, drinking and drug taking are all factors in skin appearance and ageing, but if you are doing your best with your lifestyle, is there a way of using creams to reduce the signs of ageing?
Collagen is the key to maintaining youthful, healthy-looking skin. As we age, collagen production slows down, leading to thin, sagging skin and wrinkles. By the age of 35, collagen production has already halved, so at 40, I may have missed the boat in prevention – it will still have a positive effect though. I like to think my skin is quite youthful, I get lots of comments that I don’t look my age, my Mum doesn’t either so I think I’m just lucky. Having said that, I do have three lines on my forehead that won’t go away and I’m not going to lie if someone offered me botox for free I’d seriously consider it. My eyebags are there permanently as dark shadows but thankfully aren’t saggy. Maybe if I was allowed to sleep by a certain toddler they may diminish.
What’s in the XYZ Smart Collagen Cream?
The active ingredient is obtained from the leaf sap of the South African plant Bulbine frutescens. This sap contains two powerful compounds that have been scientifically proven to slow the rate of collagen breakdown in the dermis and increase collagen production – without triggering the body’s natural immune response that would interfere with the process and lead to low quality collagen overload. It’s made using ingredients obtained from organic, sustainably-grown plants which are gently cold pressed to protect their essential, active compounds. Here’s the ingredients written on the tub:
The Claims from XYZ Smart Collagen
They claim that unlike other collagen creams that increase collagen production but reduce the quality of the collagen, that the XYZ cream restores the balance of collagen production by stimulating the fibroblasts to produce more collagen – but also switches off leukotriene synthesis. This means collagen production is increased without interfering with the skin’s natural inflammatory response. This ensures the new collagen is strong, healthy, and integrated into your skin’s existing collagen network in just the right amounts to to guarantee long term, visible results.
What I noticed from using the cream
It’s a thick white cream with no fragrance. It goes on easily and absorbs well, rather like an aqueous cream for dry skin. I’ve been applying it twice a day as recommended, morning and night. At first I didn’t notice anything, but gradually, I have noticed my skin feels tighter and my little lines are reduced. It’s not a magic cream, nothing is, but even if the effects are psychological, I’m happy with it. It is worth noting that XYZ Smart Collagen is a certified organic, natural product made using sustainably grown, raw materials. It is vegan friendly, contains no artificial ingredients, and no mineral, palm or palm kernel oils. This is important to me when choosing my skincare. It retails at £39.99 for 60ml, which competes with other brands, and you only need a small amount so it will last a while.
