If you love your home but not its kitchen, then it might be time for a renovation. Many homeowners are taking on major renovations these days, whether it’s adding new rooms or simply tearing down walls to create an open floor plan. With so many different types of renovations available and endless design possibilities, the hardest part can be deciding where to begin- not to mention handling the cost of it all. Whether you’re considering a full gut renovation or just a few small changes, here are some things you should keep in mind before getting started.
Think about your lifestyle and what you’ll use most
If your kitchen is crowded and under-utilised, you could add a few new rooms or simply improve the layout of the ones you have. This can be an easy way to add some much-needed space to your home without the hassle and cost of a full renovation. Plus, if you’re planning on adding new rooms, you can plan everything down to the last detail. Before you make any decisions, think about how you’ll actually use your space and what you’ll need. If your family loves to cook or if you host a lot of parties, you might want a big kitchen that can accommodate lots of people. If you have little ones, you might want to think about adding a mudroom or pantry to keep all their toys and shoes out of the kitchen.
Plan out your kitchen with software
If you’re doing a full kitchen renovation, you may want to plan the renovation out in 3D with software like Autodesk Revit, SketchUp, or Autodesk Homestyler. While these programs are traditionally used by architects and designers, you can use them to plan out your kitchen and make sure everything fits perfectly. If you’re not an architect or designer and don’t want to learn new software, there are plenty of online kitchen layout tools and apps available. You can easily bring your measurements into these programs and get a visual of how everything will fit together.
Consider how light will change the space
Kitchens are often the brightest and most active rooms in your house. If you’re planning a major renovation, you might want to consider changing your windows to let in more light. If you love your current windows but want more light, you could add sheers or shades to let in more light without compromising your privacy. If you want to completely change the look of your kitchen, you could also consider installing skylights. These are great for bringing in more light without having to replace your existing windows. Whichever option you choose, make sure you have the right equipment from Lowes, or get a registered trader in to help you. If you’re adding rooms or reworking your existing layout, you could also consider adding skylights to bring in more light.
Consider changing your hob
If you want to completely overhaul your kitchen, one of the biggest changes you can make is changing up your current hob. Whether you’ve got a gas or electric, it might be worth looking into alternative fuel sources. It’s possible to switch over to an LPG tank for your kitchen fuel which can offer a variety of benefits.
