Flat-Pack Kitchen Installation
A popular way to install an entire kitchen on a budget is with a flat-pack kitchen. Between a flat pack kitchen island and flat pack cabinets, you could have much of the necessary fittings installed for a relatively low price. This way you could keep your expenses under £10,000. The good news is that there are surprisingly many decent to high-quality flat pack cabinets available on a budget.
Shopping around and finding good value for money is key. If in doubt, you could consult a professional for advice as to where to look for flat-pack kitchen fittings that offer a good bang for your buck. Alternatively, you could hire a professional to source the fittings for you and perhaps even install them. However, you’d probably rather do things yourself as much as you can since your goal is to keep your expenses down.
Of course, you should not undertake the supply or/and fitting process DIY unless you have the right skills and knowledge. Otherwise, you might be looking at an incorrect installation or even safety concerns.
Budget Worktops
There are various designs and materials of kitchen countertops to choose from and among the cheaper options are solid oak worktops and high-end laminate worktops. In general, solid wood countertops are relatively cheap.
If you wish to have a high-end laminate work surface installed, it’s important to avail of one with a good depth along with a squared edge. You should overhang the worktop slightly at the end of the kitchen unit such that it runs and creates an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Affordable Kitchen Sink
You could also look at purchasing a budget-friendly kitchen sink.
Some of the least-expensive options include:
- Composite sinks
- Stainless steel sinks
- Ceramic sinks
Thankfully there are many sinks within the three aforementioned categories for less than £200 (standalone cost). You could also consult with a kitchen fitter about what type of kitchen sink installation would be most cost-effective for your home in particular. We wouldn’t recommend going too cheap, though, as kitchen sinks are used on a daily basis, so you’ll still want a fairly durable installation.
Storage on a Budget
One great way to create kitchen storage for a low price is by purchasing planed timber and using it to construct kitchen shelves DIY. Obviously, you’d need to know exactly what you’re doing and ensure that your kitchen walls are suitable for holding the weight of such shelves and whatever items you’d store on them. It’s also important to do this in a safe manner. You could also hire a professional to build low-budget kitchen shelves for you.
You’d be spending a bit on the cost of labour but if you weren’t sure about doing it DIY, at least you’d probably still keep your costs down by having planed timber used instead of more expensive shelves.
