If you made New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the year, chances are you’re still at it, and doing well reaching those goals. You go, friend! If you’ve found it a bit hard to reach those goals, it may be due to something you let slide.

How is your sleep? If you find yourself challenged to find enough energy in your day or are often feeling unmotivated to reach your goals, it could be because of your nighttime routine and therefore not getting enough sleep. In fact, it could also be because of your daytime routine, as well. If your sleep has been lacking, take a look at these 5 foolproof ways to have better sleep experiences:

Get enough sunlight in your day.

Natural light is always best and this can be true for your sleep schedule. Have you ever heard of your circadian rhythm? Essentially, your body clock helps your body know when it’s time to sleep and it’s related to the light and darkness, so you want to avoid just staying in all day and try to get some vitamin D when you can—even if it’s just for 20 minutes on a busy day. Sunshine is great for more than just your sleep, so it’s wise to make time for it.

Take time finding a mattress.

Your mattress is key to a good night of sleep. The wrong mattress can leave you feeling achy, tired, and unable to get as much sleep as you’d like. In fact, your whole bed is important when it comes to sleeping well, from your sheets and their thread count to a blanket, whether it’s the softest blanket around or a weighted blanket, these details matter. Find the bedding and bed that makes you look at it and just want to sleep.

Minimize blue light.

Whether you like to watch your favorite show at night or spend time browsing your phone before bed, your sleep may not be going well because of this. To avoid blue light effects, you could try spending your hour before sleep reading or doing another activity away from your screens. You could also invest in some blue light glasses or install apps on your computer or phone that minimize the blue light.

Get enough movement in.

If you want to make sure you get to bed, feeling tired and ready for rest, it could help you to get plenty of exercise, or at least movement in your day. Have you ever enjoyed an activity like mountain biking or rock climbing and found yourself ready to get to sleep when bedtime rolled around? It can be a great idea to start a new sport or activity, if you find yourself with too much energy before bed. Just make sure to not work out too soon before bed.

Consider taking supplements.

There are also some supplements out there that you can try if you’d like to get a little help for bedtime. From melatonin to glycine to valerian root, there are various options that can help you drift off for a better night of sleep. There are a number of natural sleep supplements available on the market that won’t cause weird dreams or grogginess like some medications.

In Conclusion

From your environment to your mattress to your diet, there are a number of things that impact your sleep. Consider these tips above if you find that you haven’t been sleeping well. So many things are based on how well we sleep at night, so if you want to make sure things can run smoothly in your life, take a look at your sleep habits.
