5 Ways to Make Your Home Feel Brand New

We’ve all become a little sick of our own homes during the lockdown.

The need to reorganise in order to work from home, or create space to entertain our kids all day has contributed to the lockdown property boom that we’ve been seeing (coupled with the temporary stamp duty holiday, of course!)

However, you don’t need to resort to something as drastic and life-changing as selling up just yet! Why not spruce up your sanctum sanctorum with these five handy tips?

  1. Change the Rooms Around

Switching your rooms around is a great shortcut to making a house feel brand new.

Obviously, there are some rooms where this is not feasible – transforming your little home office into a bathroom and vice versa would require money, contractors, and a lot of effort.

However, if your dining room gets more light and you’re spending most of your time in the living room, swap them around!

This can be a great way to create space in your home and give you the full home renovation experience without spending any money.

  • Get Some New Furniture

Of course, some of us have had the same furniture for so long that no amount of room changing can fool us into thinking that we’ve updated the look.

If you want to find the silver lining in all your holidays being cancelled, then consider using the money you’d set aside for your travels to purchase some new upholstery! Invest in a new luxury addition to your living room – bespoke manufacturers like SM London have sleek and elegant collections perfect for that je ne sais quoi.

New furniture can help breathe new life into your old home!

  • Paint an Accent Wall

If you have a room that could benefit from a bit of a facelift, then consider giving it an accent wall.

The best walls to use for this is the ones your eyes are immediately drawn to when you enter.

Don’t limit yourself to one solid colour either, use a fun wallpaper to give it a bright pattern.

This can be a great way of making a room appear bigger, without having to go through all the hassle of getting planning permission to build an extension!

  • Hang Up Your Kids’ Art

Maybe our kids aren’t the next Rembrandt, but they usually try very hard and isn’t that what really counts?

What the pages of our children’s colouring books often lack in line management skills, they usually make up for in colour.

Start framing their artwork and using it to make a feature! Not only will it add plenty of colour to a room, but it will make your little ones feel special!

  • Pick Up Some Plants

Why not head down to your local garden centre and get some indoor plants?

Not only can they make your home feel more lived in, but studies show that living with indoor plants can reduce stress

As long as you remember to water them that is!
