The world has changed dramatically since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While this event has definitely put a damper on many people’s plans, the good news of vaccines being developed is promising. Nevertheless, it is still essential to prepare for life in a post-pandemic world.
One way to do this is to always have the right items to maintain personal hygiene to protect ourselves and other people from the spread of future epidemics. Here are some of them:
Face Masks
Whether you’re simply running errands or have to travel for work, keep a few face masks handy in your bag. It’s possible that wearing one will still be encouraged and required in some places long after the COVID-19 pandemic has been contained. Besides, a protective layer on top of your nose and mouth can greatly reduce your chances of getting sick or making others sick. Go for cloth masks with breathable and antimicrobial fabric so that you can reuse them and always have them at the ready.
Hand Sanitizer and Liquid Hand Soap
It’s also a good idea to carry around a hand sanitiser to clean your hands immediately after touching any surface and before having a meal. Make sure to go for a hand sanitiser that is made of at least 60 per cent alcohol to ensure that it is effective in killing most microorganisms on your hands. You can also bring a bottle of liquid hand soap so that you can wash your hands more frequently wherever you go. Using soap and water may not be as convenient as using a sanitiser, but it is certainly the most effective way to sanitize your hands. As a basic handwashing tip, lather your hands for at least 20 seconds before rinsing them with water.
Thermometer
You are more susceptible to getting sick whenever you leave your house. Since it’s possible to get sick without showing any severe symptoms, make sure to bring a thermometer with you just in case you’ll need to check if you have a fever. This is the one I have and use at home. After all, feeling your neck with the back of your hand may not give you an accurate reading. And in a post-pandemic world, it’s better to be on the safe side for everyone’s sake, including yours.
Portable Water Filtration Device
It’s important to stay hydrated while you’re on the go by bringing clean water with you no matter where you are. When traveling, it might be harder to find safe drinking water, so a travel-friendly device that can filter water for you is worth investing in. Backpacking water filters come in straw form, water bottles, mini filtration devices, water filter cartridge replacement, and many more.
Antiseptic Wipes
Remove dirt and microbes from surfaces and your belongings using antiseptic wipes. Go for wipes soaked in either bleach-based or hydrogen peroxide-based cleaners. While a spray does mitigate the need to touch different surfaces, wipes are a better option for cleaning mobile devices, doorknobs, handlebars, and more. So always carry a pack with you to be on the safe side.
Portable Charger
Keep your devices sufficiently charged while you’re on the go with a power bank or similar device. You never know when you’ll need to do an online transaction or contact someone because of a health-related emergency. Give yourself peace of mind by having a portable charger on hand to keep your phone or laptop from dying amid any ordeal.
Multivitamins and Immunoboosters
When traveling, your immune system may need to work harder to prevent you from catching something from your surroundings. Give it a boost by packing a first aid kit with multivitamins and other health supplements.
Gloves
If your work involves meeting people face-to-face and handling communal items daily, it’s best to wear gloves while working. Some examples of these types of professions include cashiers, nail technicians, medical professionals, and hairstylists, to name a few. While you can’t really avoid coming into contact with people and touching items that many others also touch, you can prevent the spread of any germs by protecting your hands. Just remember to use hand cream to keep your hands from drying out.
The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed how we act in public and how we get around. It’s safe to say that many of the established protocols that we follow now may very well become daily habits in the future. That being said, keeping these items in your bag can be helpful when it comes to staying safe and minimizing your exposure to pathogens.

You have nailed it, we indeed have to live probably next few years by observing some protocols and keeping certain essentials at hand. I miss those pre-pandemic years, I wish this disease is brought under control and we get to live our normal lives again.
