Sleep is simple, right? You just have to get into bed when you’re feeling tired and relax. Eventually, you’ll drift off and will be able to enjoy seven to eight hours of good-quality sleep. When you wake up, you’ll feel super refreshed and ready to start to the new day!
Well, it doesn’t always go as simple as that. In fact, sometimes sleep can be quite complicated and, no matter what you do, it could be impossible to get enough sleep or stop yourself from waking up through the night. That could all be because you are making some of the common mistakes that people make with their sleep. Here are some of the main ones and what you can do about them.
Drinking Too Much Caffeine
Sure, coffee may be exactly what you need to overcome your morning tiredness and to get through the day at work but it could also be the reason why you are staying up too late at night. If you drink too much caffeine through the day, you will end up unable to sleep at night. So, it might be necessary to cut down on all your cups of coffee through the day. Ideally, you need to stop consuming any caffeine after 4PM so that it has time to leave your body before you hit the hay.
Taking Naps Through The Day
Something else that you should try and cut down on is napping through the day. Generally speaking, it’s best not to take any naps as they could result in your mind and body being too awake by bedtime. If you struggle to get through the day feeling tired, you can try and wake yourself up by going for a walk or drinking green tea for its natural energy boost. If you can’t cut out your naps, make sure you take them as early as possible.
Not Replacing Your Mattress
When was the last time you replaced your mattress? If it hasn’t been for a number of years, now could be the time to start looking for a new one. Finding the right mattress is actually quite easy if you take a look in a shop, as you’ll be able to lie on them and see which ones feels the most comfortable for you. It’s also worth checking out online reviews before you buy too.

Sleeping With Pets
Do you snuggle up with your dog or cat in bed every night? Lots of people let their pets sleep in the same bed as them, but research shows that this could actually reduce the quality of their sleep. If your pet does disturb you, it’s worth buying them their own bed and leaving them downstairs through the night.
Hitting Snooze
Make sure you aren’t hitting the snooze button on your alarm either. This will prepare your body for a new cycle of sleep, which you won’t have time to complete. As a result, you’ll wake up feeling very groggy and tired.
Hopefully, these tips help you sleep better!
