Our Extension Plans Have Been Approved! Ad

It’s a big week here in our household, we’ve finally got all the plans approved for our double extension. We moved into our 1930s house 8 years ago and always planned on extending it one day. I kind of hoped we’d get there before now, but life happens. We decided to have a third child and that kind of put the brakes on.

Currently, we have two good sized reception rooms and a small kitchen. Downstairs we plan to extend out to the rear by 4 metres to make a large kitchen diner area that will be open plan with our current dining room/ games room. We will also have a downstairs toilet and shower room incorporated. I am so looking forward to a kitchen where we aren’t bumping into each other the whole time and we can actually have a cutlery drawer.

Upstairs we have a family bathroom and two good sized bedrooms and a small box room. Currently, the two younger ones share a room and my eldest son has the box room. With the new plan, we will extend into the loft to make 2 new rooms and a toilet and shower room. The current box room will become an adjoining study/ walk-in wardrobe to our bedroom. Then each of the children will have their own good sized bedroom.

There will also be some updating and repairing going on. We have already done a lot of work in the house, but there is still much to do. I plan to replace some of the carpets with carpets from somewhere like Designer Carpet, who are affordable for the look we want. I really like the grey carpets they have. When we took on the house, we were only the second owners and the house hadn’t been touched since the 70s it felt like! They didn’t even have plumbing for a washing machine when we moved in. It has always felt warm and homely though, and I have always felt welcomed.

We have a strict budget to adhere to so we will have to be careful what we spend apart from the building costs. We plan to get a standard kitchen and appliances and do some of the work ourselves. My parents live locally and by the time we start work (hopefully spring this year) restrictions will be lifted and we can spend some of the daytimes at their house to get out of the way of the building works and do some washing and cooking! I’ll be sharing our progress on my Instagram channel, so do pop over and say hi.
