CBD oil and products are everywhere at the moment and whatever your ailment, you’ll find someone recommending it for you. But what about using CBD oil from a respected brand like Cibdol during pregnancy? Is it safe? Does it have any effects on the growing baby? When and why would you use CBD oil during your pregnancy? This article will aim to answer all of your questions on the topic and provide you with evidence-based research to back it up. You should always consult your Midwife or Doctor before taking anything in pregnancy, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

Benefits of CBD oil for pregnancy

There are many ways that CBD oil can reduce and relieve common symptoms of pregnancy.

Nausea: It is well known to be a symptom of pregnancy, and not just in the early days, nor just in the morning. CBD is an effective way to treat nausea, but more research needs to be done on the effects on the developing foetus.

Anxiety and Depression: Whether you are prone to mental health issues or not, pregnancy can spark and exacerbate the condition. CBD has been shown to provide relief from those suffering from anxiety and depression.

Sleeping problems/ Insomnia: problems getting to sleep, staying asleep and quality of sleep can be affected in pregnancy. CBD can be an effective alternative to sleeping pills or sedatives, which can be addictive.

Aches and pains: The increase of progesterone in the body during pregnancy means more aches and pains, strains, and sprains. CBD is an effective pain reliever, without causing side effects of other pain medication.

Risks of using CBD in pregnancy

Certain research studies exploring the relationship between pregnancy and marijuana state that marijuana doesn’t tamper with the brain development of the baby. However, the impacts of CBD products are still unknown. Most research studies on Cannabis use (see list at the end of the article) and pregnancy focus on the illegal smoking and taking of Marijuana, which often is associated with drug abuse, and has a negative impact on the baby such as low birth weight, and behavioral problems in later life. The low birth weight is often due to the inhalation of smoke.

CBD products do not contain the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant, it will not make you or the baby high. There is more research to be done as to whether it is safe to take in pregnancy. It is always difficult to conduct research on medications or substances and their effect on pregnancy due to the ethical considerations – if you willingly gave something as part of a research study that had a negative effect on a baby’s life that would never be approved! Therefore you have to find women who are using the product anyway.

Many mothers choose to take it at their own discretion to relieve their symptoms. There are also various ways to take it – for example, there are creams, oils, and tablets, and each works in its own way. Please consult your Doctor or Midwife if you choose to do so.
