Being a new parent can bring with them some of the best, challenging, and isolating periods of your life. You have bought this bundle of joy into the world and you are responsible for taking care of all of their needs. If you have a partner around that can be a big help, but if that partner spends a lot of time at work, you will be spending a lot of your day with just a newborn and no other company.

Giving birth means entering a whole new phase of life, and while your long-term friends may be loyal, it’s still important to be able to make connections with people going through the same experience as you– it’s also a great way to make sure that your little one make friends as they grow up, too!

But how can you start to make friends as a new parent? Keep reading to find out.

Attend baby classes

When you found out you were expecting, you likely didn’t realize how many types of baby class there were. Baby massage, baby weaning, babywearing, baby music…all sorts!

Parenting groups can be a lifesaver when it comes to making friends and having adult conversations! They are not only great for your baby’s health and development, but they’re also great for your sanity, too.

It truly takes a village to raise a child, and what better way to find your village than to meet them at the source. Having parent friends with kids at the same age and developmental stage as yours can be an excellent way to express your concerns and woes to people who truly know how it feels.

Get Online

Online dating is now becoming more normal. But online ‘dating’ doesn’t have to just be limited to romantic relationships. The internet can be a great way of connecting people who are experiencing similar things to you.

Find local parent groups on social media or join forums. If you want somebody to talk to in a pinch, why not use thechatlinenumber free trials to make a connection with another person? Sometimes just having somebody to talk to can make the stresses go away.

You never know if you’ll come across somebody who lives close by to you who will want to make friends! Shared experiences will often bring people together, and that is exactly what new parents need amidst stinky diapers, baby puke, and cracked nipples taking over their lives in the early days.

Take a trip to the library

The library will likely become your parenting savior. It is one of the best things you can do with young children and babies. They are free, and an increasing number now have dedicated children’s play and reading areas where your baby has a bit more freedom to roam around, look at different books and play with other babies.

Parent and baby storytime sessions will give you access to other parents who are trying to add some variety to the week.

Raising a new baby is hard, but you don’t have to do it all alone. Do what you can to make new friends.
