They have great beliefs in monotheistic, which makes it the heart of the holy land. It has a great history of jews who raised their first temple for keeping the Ark of Covenant safe. For the keen believers, it’s no less than pilgrimage in the world. This article will list out five best places in Jerusalem to plan the Israel Christian tours.
- Haram Al-Sharif (Temple Mount)
If you decide to make it top on the list, your start will begin with the footsteps of centuries of pilgrims, and you will be moving towards the holiest sanctuaries on earth. The Jews, Christians, and Muslims have been highly devoted to this site. This site is known for Abraham, who was the father of all three monotheistic faiths and later offered his son a sacrifice to God. This was when Solomon built his First Temple for the Ark of the Covenant, and the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven during his early years of preaching Islam. There is also a wide plaza above the old city center between the glittering dome of the rock. It is known to be Jerusalem’s most iconic landmark. - Western Wall and Jewish Quarter
The western wall is the left-out part of Jerusalem’s First Temple, which has survived to date. It’s commonly known as the Wailing Wall due to the people’s emotion attached to the loss of the temple in AD 70. It is one of the holiest sites and pilgrimage sites for the Jewish people since the Ottoman era. The western wall plaza also consists of the Jewish quarters of the old city, spread till the Zion Gate east to the Western Wall Plaza. The ancient city was severely damaged in Israeli-Arab fighting in 1948 and was rebuilt in 1967. The tourists can enjoy the history of Jerusalem Archaeological Park, where they can see the fascinating remnants of old Jerusalem. You can also visit the Western Wall Tunnels, which runs under the tunnels and would take you back to the city. You can find exciting things to visit in the surroundings of the street.
- Church of the Holy Sepulchre
This church is a Christian pilgrim and one of the holiest sites for Jerusalem. This site is known for the crucifixion of Jesus. The place was picked by Saint Helena, the mother to Constantine the Great, during her Holy Land tour. She was the one to announce to the Byzantine world that this spot was the Calvary (or Golgotha) of the gospels. The original church was destroyed in 1009, and the grand church was built later in the 11th century. The interior of the church is a beautiful piece of religious architecture. There are a lot of different quarters owned inside the church by various denominations.
- Armenian Quarter
The Armenian quarters are based in the south of Citadel in the Armenian Patriarchate Road. There are other tourist attractions which you can find while visiting through the narrow lanes. Armenians have been an essential part of Jerusalem’s community for centuries. Many people also relocated after the Armenian massacres in Turkey during the early 20th century.
5. Follow the Route of the Via Dolorosa
If you are walking here on Fridays, you will get a chance to join the procession with Italian Franciscan monks. This walk was the route of Jesus Christ after his condemnation while bearing his cross towards execution at Calvary. It has 14 station sins based on traditions as the walk begins from the Muslim Quarter of the Old City on Via Dolorosa Street. It is being stretched to approx 600 meters.
