Many individuals use prescription drugs. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as it is for a legitimate medical reason. However, some prescription drugs have a high potential for misuse.

Let us take a few moments to talk about some signs you should watch out for in your friends and family members. If you see any of these, it could be indicative that they are misusing prescription drugs.
They Seem Secretive
You might notice if you have a friend or family member who is misusing prescription drugs that they seem more secretive than they used to be. They may spend a lot more time by themselves. They might excuse themselves to spend time in their room or the bathroom frequently.
This is not always an indicator that they’re using prescription drugs, but if you notice they’re being secretive along with other signs on this list, that makes substance abuse more likely.
They Often Seem Spaced Out or Distant
If someone is using drugs frequently, it will often appear that they are high or affected in some way. They may talk about things that make no sense, or they may have a hard time sticking to a single subject. They might have dilated pupils, have trouble walking normally, or show other signs that they are under the influence.
They Have Mood Swings
Someone who is using drugs regularly may start to act in a way that is quite different from how they normally seem or how you usually think of them. They may seem very low and depressed sometimes when you see them. It could be just as likely that they’re flying high, and they seem manic to you.
If they seem to fluctuate between these two conditions, that probably means they’re using drugs, and you’re seeing them when they’ve just used their substance of choice or when they are anxious to use it. If you point out the difference in their behavior, though, don’t be surprised if they get defensive.
They Have Trouble in Relationships
Individuals who are misusing prescription drugs are highly likely to struggle in their relationships. They may not get along with people they love or care about as well as they used to.
As a friend or family member of such a person, you may find this hard to take. It can cause you pain to see someone you love acting so differently.
You Find Drug Paraphernalia
Finding drug paraphernalia or other evidence of drug use is another possible sign that someone you know is misusing prescription drugs. You might find traces of powder if they are crushing up pills and snorting them. You may find pipes or needles.
If you see several of these signs, it’s much more likely a person you know is abusing prescription drugs.
