How to Protect Your Home while you’re away

If you’ve ever experienced the horror of being burgled like I have, you’ll know how awful it is.  I’ve been burgled twice – once two houses ago where they just managed to break the window lock, bring some fishing rods downstairs (!) and then leave, and once in our last house when I stupidly left the living room window open at night and my handbag hanging on the door… they also took my nice baby changing bag which I was actually more annoyed about!  I hope they enjoyed the nappies and wipes, unfortunately there weren’t any mouldy bibs or old snacks in there…

Our current house is in a neighbourhood watch area, it’s a small street and we all look out for each other so I feel a lot safer, but when we go away on holidays, it would be nice to have some extra security for peace of mind.

Panasonic have designed a new range of smart home devices to help make life easier for us.  They can be linked to your smart phone when you’re away.  I particularly like the security camera – you can talk to delivery people and ask them to leave your parcel where you want it – a blogger’s dream!  They also have motion sensors which can switch on lights for you too.  There’s an indoor camera which is useful as a baby monitor – just look on your phone to check it (which let’s be honest, you’re always looking at anyway).  Here’s a bit more information:

What is Smart Home

The Smart Home is a home monitoring and control system with simple installation and easy operation.

Whether you use it to monitor your home while you are away, or simply to switch your appliances on & off automatically, it gives you the ability to monitor and control your home from the convenience of your smartphone or tablet.

There is no monthly subscription fee to run the system, and they have a wide range of optional accessories, which enable you to extend the system to suit your needs.

Benefits of Smart Home

The Smart Home system looks easy to set up. They use one-push pairing, so you simply push one button at each device, and that’s it.

All the Smart Home devices communicate with each other using the Ultra Low Energy (ULE) wireless standard that’s invisible to regular consumer electronics products.

The Smart Home system can work up to a maximum of 300m, so it can cover the key areas if your home with ease.

How you can use the smart home system

There are plenty of options on how to use your Panasonic Smart Home system in conjunction with the app. You can utilise the smart devices at home for night time. Or when you are away at work or on holiday.

You can also control your lights using the smart plug from the comfort of your sofa.  The ultimate in laziness, perfect!

Use your app to check on up to four different footages from four connected cameras at the same time (split screen) and take snapshots from the camera views or start recording footage.  Amazing!

Here’s a video of the systems in action, I think the lady who puts her baby down doesn’t just go off for a walk with her dog, I think she’s in her garden!

What do you think?  I’d love to incorporate the smart hub into my home, and it would really give me peace of mind whilst I’m away from home, even though we live in a nicer area now, you never know, and I have such a befuddled brain half the time I often leave things how they shouldn’t be!

That’s brilliant! I’d love that in my home. We got burgled when I was expecting my 3rd baby and they took all my jewellery…

However the technology has used to build these kind of smart homes will be going to cost a fortune today, but will be a worth one in future.

Another smart home device that is useful for home security is the doorbell camera which allows you to not only answer the door from your smart phone but check on the front door area. Additionally connecting your smart hub to automation hub like the Panasonic Smart Home System with a Smart Door Lock will allow you more control over who enters your home.

Hi! You are right, But I would like to add that is- using a smart lock is better than anything. Many companies now brought the smart lock which is controlled via smartphone. And you’ll be able to get the notification every time to check the lock’s status.
