I was intrigued by these little balls (behave yourself) called Bunchems from Spinmaster toys. How do they work? Are they sticky? Will they get caught in hair? Are they any fun? Won’t they get everywhere? These are questions I have now answered for you. I was sent the Mega Pack and the Under the Sea Glow in the Dark pack. The smaller under the sea pack is a good starter to see if your child is going to like them, the bigger mega pack is great as it has loads of primary colours that you can use for wherever your imagination takes you. They come in big boxes which are always popular for gifts.
What’s in the Bunchems Mega Pack
Inside the Bunchems Mega Pack, you get instructions, which are easy to follow and start by explaining the different shapes you can make to create. It also has step by step instructions for various designs.
Obviously you get the Bunchems themselves, they’re not sticky, they’re softly spiky actually, and rather nicely tactile. I love the bright colours. Phoebe has seen the TV ads and knew what to do, she also told me and showed me how easy they are to tidy up by grabbing a big ball of them and then picking the stray balls up. There are 8 different colours in the Mega Pack. You also get the extra bits for the designs, like eyes, legs, fins, tails, hats etc. They really bring the designs to life. The Bunchem balls have holes each end that the accessories plug into.
How the Bunchems work
Each little Bunchem ball has little hooks on and they stick to each other a bit like velcro, but it doesn’t matter which side goes to which, they’re all the same. In the Under the Sea Glow in the Dark pack, there are 7 different designs to make, and the white balls are the glow in the dark ones. Out of both the packs, Phoebe was instantly drawn to the ‘Nemo’ clown fish and wanted to make that first. I made her tie her hair back, because it was brought to my attention that if they get stuck in children’s hair it’s a nightmare to get out. I also warned her about it. A few dropped on the floor but they’re so bright they’re easy to spot and pick up with a big ball of them and it’s a lot less mess than playdough.
Not a bad likeness, is it? She was thrilled when we turned the lights off and drew the curtains and there was her glowing fish. So yes, they’re fun, they don’t get stuck in hair easily, and they’re not sticky! If they do get in your child’s hair, pop them in the bath and put conditioner in the hair, then they slide out easily. You can find them at toy shops, or online. Happy creating!
