10 Child Friendly Minecraft YouTubers you can let your child under 12 watch

So your child has somehow come across YouTube and Minecraft videos?  They’re known as ‘Letsplay’ videos and are incredibly popular with kids these days.  The stars are more popular than you can imagine and far richer than us!  How do you know which ones are safe for them to watch?  Who is child friendly?  I’ve been caught out by ones that swear, show too much zombie action or ones that are downright weird.

Two years ago we were planning on buying an Xbox 360 for our son who was 4 at the time.  We were deciding what games to buy him, he was already playing the pocket version of Minecraft on the tablet (Kindle fire HD) so we knew we would get him that.  I wanted to see what sort of games he liked, so I turned to youtube to show him some games and get an idea of what he liked.  I didn’t know I was opening him and myself up to a whole new world!  He was fascinated, and we stumbled across a minecraft video by Stampy, of him exploring a star wars minecraft map.  He laughed his head off and wanted to watch the whole series of star wars ‘episodes.’  He stopped playing as much and preferred watching the videos.  Once I’d got over the fact that my son was watching Youtube, I needed a way to make sure he wouldn’t come across swearing, inappropriate content or worse, groomers.  I researched Stampy (Stampylongnose, stampylonghead, all the same) and discovered how famous and popular he is and that he is, in fact, safe to watch.  I follow him on all my social media channels!  Over time I’ve researched other youtubers to make sure they’re ok and we’ve added more to his ‘safe’ subscriber list and he only watches videos from certain channels after I’ve looked into them.  We tend to stick to a certain list and not add to it, occasionally he wants to add more.  I used to insist he only watched videos with no talking, but the talking is what interests him so we adapted.  He’s now 6 and a half and watches the videos through his Xbox in our dining room/playroom/gameroom where I can easily keep an eye on things but I don’t sit and watch them all with him.  I’ve put together this list for parents like me who want peace of mind about who and what their kids are watching.

10 Child friendly minecraft youtubers that are safe to let children watch

1. Stampy, he uploads letsplay videos, not just Minecraft, sometimes vlogs aswell but all are clean and family friendly.

2. Wonderquest, another Stampy channel, it has an educational vibe, it mixes animation with Minecraft play and covers set topics.

3. iBallistic Squid – Stampy’s sidekick, he has his own channel, because of this guy, my son has phrases like ‘lovely jubbly.’  He does his own lets play videos and vlogs about silly stuff which boys like.

4. The 8-bittheater is a father and son who record videos.  I’d check the videos on this one, some are not always suitable, but the game play ones are and the minecraft ones.

5. Popular MMOS – Run by married young couple Pat and Jen, they’re American and have really annoying voices, but my son loves them.  They muck about in Minecraft with lucky boxes, maps and god knows what else.  How do I know they’re married?  I saw a bit of their wedding video.  Seriously.

6. Ash Dubh – part of the Stampy crew, they’re shorter videos, so if you need a quick, 5 minute pick up, go here.

7. Netty Plays – yes, women do it too, she’s part of the Stampy crew and has her own channel, very approachable.

8. The Diamond Minecart – Dan TDM.  He’s a young man with sometimes blue hair, sometimes not depending on what videos you’re watching, and one of those big hole earrings, but he doesn’t swear, is open and makes good gaming videos.

 

9. Kaykrae – a female gamer, suitable for children.

10. Gaming with Jen, Pat and Jen’s Jen with her own channel.  Her gamer tag is SuperGirlyGamer.
