Dating after Divorce: What Next?

Sharing is caring!

Some people can’t wait to get stuck into dating again after they get divorced whereas others need a bit more time. There’s no right or wrong, you just need to do whatever feels right for you at the time. Divorce can feel like a bereavement, whether you ended it or not, so give yourself time to grieve this loss. It’s often not the loss of the person themselves, but the idea that you were going to be married to the same person and grow old together. You may have had strong family ideals you held and now it’s time to live with your new reality. Remember, this split happened for a reason, something wasn’t right or couldn’t be repaired.

How do you know you’re ready?

It’s an emotional time, and it can be tempting to jump straight back in to get positive attention to make you feel better, but it might be best to wait a while for you to fully heal. There’s nothing wrong with having a physical affair or learning what you like sexually again, but maybe leave it a while before you get into a new relationship.

Dating for fun rather than an end goal

When you do start dating again, try not to go in with high expectations. Don’t even think about getting married again. Enjoy the dating process, meeting new people and making new friends. There may be some people who you don’t find physically attractive, but they can be a good companion for hobbies and outings. Have you always wanted to try bdsm dating? Perhaps your previous partner was quite vanilla but you always wanted to experiment? Now’s your chance! Remember always do it safely, through a reputable dating agency like mybdsmhookups.com.

Spend time on your own

Spend some quality time by yourself. If you have children and your ex is having them regularly, take that time for yourself. Try and figure out what is really best for you and your future. You might be surprised at what you find out. Is it time for a different career move, would you like to remain a single woman and just date, or are you looking for a new life partner? Self-care and self-exploration are so important.

Look After Your Appearance

When you’re getting back into the dating world, you’ll want to invest in your appearance a bit. While you undoubtedly look great already, you might want to consider putting the extra effort in, especially when it comes to the dates themselves.

That goes beyond getting a few new clothes and a haircut – although they’re perfectly recommended. Instead, you might want to tackle any teeth issues or similar parts of your appearance that you consider negative.

Looking for ‘orthodontics near me’ or similar professionals can make sure you get this done quickly and easily. Investing in your appearance can also give you a confidence boost for when you get back into the dating world.

Be safe online

If you choose to start online dating, be careful. There are men who will tell you everything you want to hear and then after a while when you’re comfortable, they will ask for money. Don’t get sucked in to a scam! Of course there are lots of genuine lovely men around too. Remember you can talk on the phone, skype each other before meeting up. You can always meet up during the day, in a crowded place, or with a friend on hand.

Don’t rush to introduce a partner to your children

The last thing your children need after a breakup is to be introduced to a line of new suitors. Wait until you’re really sure before you make introductions. Talk to your children beforehand to see how they feel. Don’t big them up too much, as they will be cautious anyway. It depends on the age of your children too as to how you approach it.

I hope these tips help you, is there anything else you would add?

My dad met someone though work about 8 years ago and she’s the best thing to happen to him. He was terrified to introduce her to me though. hahaha
