A bedroom is something that should be a sanctuary and a haven, helping you to be able to sleep and relax at the end of the day. Not only that, but it can be a place to express yourself with your favourite colours, to really have a bedroom that you love. If you are thinking of redecorating your bedroom, or want to know how to make your bedroom look better than it already does, then here are some things to think about.

Subtle colour

At the end of the day, your bedroom is your bedroom. But in order to make sure that it is a place to rest and sleep, choosing subtle colours is the way forward. A more restful palette with tones that are more monochromatic can be more peaceful than bright and bold primary colours. Think about colours and how they make you feel too. For example, gentle blue shades, greens, and purples are calming and more serene. Any richer jewel colours can create a comforting and cosy mood. If you normally choose bold colour, just go for a muted-down version for the bedroom.

Don’t forget about the ceiling

When you think about the walls in your bedroom, do you count the ceiling? The ceiling is another wall to think about, and if you don’t like seeing a blank and plain space when you are laying on your back in bed, then what else could you consider? You could paint it a subtle colour that complements the wall colour, or perhaps add texture to the ceiling with drapes, which can create a comforting and more intimate space. Stenciling is a good idea for the ceiling too, as well as making sure that there are some decorative elements, such as crown mouldings or beams; you could just go for a large and fancy light fixture. Don’t forget about the ceiling!

Display artwork

Having photographs in the home are usually best in other areas in the home, especially if they are photos that you want others to see. Your bedroom is all about you (and a partner if you have one) so why not highlight some of your favourite pieces of art? From pieces that you’d find in the Pro Hart gallery to getting copies of more classic and traditional pieces, you can showcase your personality this way and display some pieces that you love or that have real meaning to you.

Get the size of the furniture right

When you are thinking about your bedroom furniture, it is a good idea to measure out the floor space that you have and then go from there. You need to be realistic about the space that you have. For example, having a super king-size bed might be a dream, but if the room is on the smaller side, then it would take over and leave very little room for anything else. Think about work in the space, and don’t overcrowd it. If you can’t fit a dressing table in, then find somewhere else for it to go.
