Essential items to put in a baby hamper gift

AD

Baby hampers are an ideal gift for new mums or for a baby shower. You can personalise them in so many ways and give useful gifts rather than something that will sit on a shelf or get banished to a drawer. I always like a hamper myself, lots of gifts instead of one, and something to look through and discover, like a treasure box. In this article, we’re going to explore what the essentials are to include in a baby hamper. Of course, it’s going to differ according to your recipient, what gender they’re expecting and your personal preferences, but this will give you an idea of what to include if you aren’t sure.

Muslins

Muslin squares come in so handy with a baby and they have multiple uses. They can be used as dribble bibs, milk bibs, food bibs, swaddle blankets, sun shades, burp cloths, changing mats… the list is endless! They also come in so many pretty designs to suit any theme. You can even get Harry Potter ones! They’re so soft for baby’s delicate skin.

Teething Toys

Teething toys will always be needed. Babies start to teethe around 2-4 months and it can last for seemingly forever! Plenty of toys they can chew on will be needed, and why can’t they be colourful and cute 🙂 Make sure you choose BPA free silicone or baby safe wood. You can also get teethers that go in the fridge or freezer to help numb the gums.

Cuddly Toys

I don’t know about you, but I still have a special cuddly toy from when I was a child. Cuddly toys can become special keepsakes and treasured friends to babies. If you get it right they will use it as a transitional object and it will give them great comfort. If you know what the parents like and are into, think about incorporating that into your cuddly toy gift. Are they massive Harry Potter nerds? How about a cuddly white owl like Hedwig? Get creative and they will always remember and treasure the gift you gave.

Onesies

Onesies, vests, bodysuits, sleepsuits, babygrows, they’re all the same things with different names. The short sleeved ones are the ones you’ll get the most use out of, they are the base layer and in warmer weather a standalone outfit. You’ll need so many, especially when they have a poo explosion everywhere in the middle of the shopping centre. Believe me, I speak from experience. You will always need to carry a spare or two out with you.

Hats

Baby hats are so cute and they serve a purpose to keep them warm. Although it’s a myth that you lose most of the heat through your head, your baby’s head is the biggest part of them and putting a hat on them will keep the heat in. If a baby is too cold in the hospital, one of the first things we do is put on a hat and get the Mum to do skin to skin contact.

Sock ons

Yes, I’ve spelt it right – socks are an obvious one, but I have never known them to stay on babies’ feet! They’re always coming off and are better used as scratch mitts. These little gadgets called sock ons keep the socks on their feet.

Nappies and Wipes

Stick a packet of nappies in the hamper and you’ll have a friend for life. You think you’re going to be prepared and have enough nappies and wipes, but you never are. Wipes come in so handy and not just for the baby’s bottom. Sleep deprivation makes you clumsy and having wipes on hand to catch any spills or mess is really handy.
