How to clean your oven? Get someone in to do it, that’s how! It’s one of those jobs that you know you should do but it never seems the right time to do it – here’s my list of excuses:

I’m just about to cook in it

I don’t want to stink the place out

It’s only going to get dirty again, why bother?

I’ve lost the oven cleaner…

I’ve got to wash my hair

I’ve got to do my nails

I’ve got to do anything else but clean the oven!

It’s so dirty nothing will make a difference

So here’s the answer – get someone to do the hard work for you, someone who does it for a living, won’t judge you on the state of your oven, and has the right tools and cleaning equipment.

Enter Fantastic Services, who are in fact, Fantastic! I decided that my oven was beyond help and as we’re planning on replacing it soon and Father’s day is just around the corner, I’d treat my Dad to the ultimate gift – a clean oven! He’s thrilled. If you’re stuck for a gift idea for the man who has everything, he’ll never have had this one!

Using the service of Fantastic Services

They phoned me to arrange a suitable time, the lovely man arrived on time, he was friendly, courteous and efficient. He knew straight away how to get the doors off safely, he made sure the kitchen floor and worktops were protected. He had a huge tray for putting the oven racks in and cleaning them. He even cleaned the grill pan! It was left sparkling after much scrubbing. There were no harsh smells and he said we could use it straight away, just to let it dry out. Perfect, and look at the before and after – we did feel a bit like lady of the manor whilst our servant cleaned for us, but that’s half the fun, plus I was able to get on with some work whilst he did the necessary.

They also do other services, primarily in London and greater London, but I’m in Kent and they came out to us. They offer handymen, carpet cleaning, gardening, removals, rubbish removal, builders, pet care and pest control and there’s also an app. I really like the idea of getting a one off cleaner every now and then for £12.

As my Mum put it, if you have it done just once a year, it’s well worth it. Prices start from £60.

Disclosure: we were given the service in return for my open and honest review.

So coincidental that you wrote this today. I self cleaned our oven yesterday because we cooked a roast over the weekend in a pot that wasn’t quite deep enough, that’s a whole other story, and the broth dripped all in the bottom of our oven. While self cleaning we definitely had to open several windows and doors due to the smoke and odor. After ten minutes of the kids running outside for fresh air, the fire alarm went off. At this point we are all laughing.

Needless to say we should have wiped the oven out a bit before we started the self clean cycle. After the cycle was finished we waited ten minutes, not long enough, for the oven to cool down and wiped it out with a damp cloth. To my dismay the glass on our oven door cracked! We didn’t let the oven cool long enough. No, this is not the first time we have self cleaned an oven. Sometimes we all have days like this. Unfortunately, we were just a little impatient!
