Having a garden is an excellent thing if you have a family. Even if you don’t have kids, it gives you somewhere to relax or perhaps for your pets to get some exercise. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, you might not decide to do much with it. Some people are happy to have a patio or perhaps a lawn that they only have to mow now and then. But there’s more you can do with your garden space if you’re willing to do a bit more work. You could try one of these themes below to transform your garden.
Low-maintenance Garden
If you want an attractive garden but gardening all the time isn’t for you, you can still do something low-maintenance. It’s possible for your garden to look great without it needing too much care. Even if you want to have some plants, you can choose some that you can pretty much leave alone. It’s easy to avoid plants that need lots of care if you do your research. If you’re not sure, you can ask someone at a garden centre or plant nursery. They can help you select things to plant that won’t give you any trouble. Of course, you could also place emphasis on paving instead.

An Edible Garden
Not everyone is into flowers. You might prefer the idea of being able to eat the things you grow in your garden. If that sounds like your idea of fun, you could grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs. You don’t need a large garden to do it, either. Although, if you’re planning a trip to a fruit tree nursery, you might need to check that you have enough space. Be careful about your selection of things to grow. Some things will be easy to start with, such as cabbages, potatoes or tomatoes. Other plants, like some fruits, might be harder for beginners. Raspberries are a good place to start, along with onions and potatoes. Squashes are fun and everyone loves a pumpkin come Halloween.
A Family Garden

If you have kids, you want your garden to be used by the whole family. The children should be able to run around, and the adults should be able to garden or sit outside and enjoy a drink. Creating a garden for everyone can sometimes be hard. More specifically, it’s difficult not to let the kids completely take over! If you want to make sure you keep some of the garden for yourself, you can create different zones. Have an area for playing and another for sitting and eating, drinking or chatting.
A Sociable Garden
Anyone who loves having friends come to see them might like to have a garden conducive to socialising. During the summer, perhaps you love having a barbecue with friends and family. It’s easy to set up areas for dining or socialising with the right outdoor furniture. You could also consider some other fun features, like a gazebo. It would give everyone somewhere to sit and enjoy the rest of the garden. A large lawned or patio area will help too.

You can do whatever you want with your garden, so use your imagination. Create a space that’s best for you and your family.
