College is a scary and exciting thing for all kids, but also for all parents as well. It’s one thing to know that your child is heading to this next chapter in their life, but it can be scary to know that they’re not going to be as close as they used to be. Either way though, it’s your job as their parent to ensure that you are helping them get ready as best you can. Applications
The first thing that you are going to need to think about is getting ready to help them with their applications if they need it. Sometimes college applications are extremely difficult, and teens turn to their parents to help them answer some of the questions. Do your best, and make sure that you have researched the best kind of answers before you agree to help. However, a lot of colleges are looking for the personality of the individual to shine through, so you need to make sure that the answers reflect your child as much as possible.
Moving
Once they have been accepted into college, they know where they are going and everything is sorted, you are going to need to help them with the move. Make sure that you look into a student storage solution for the bits that they need to be close to them, but perhaps don’t have the space in their dorm to accommodate them. If the college isn’t too far from your home then the belongings can stay there, but if it is, then a storage solution will be needed.
It’s important that you have got everything sorted for the move, including purchasing everything they will need such as bed linens, a kettle, and so much more. It’s going to be a lot of new stuff, and a lot of packing up!
Saying Goodbye
When the time comes for you to leave, it’s going to be emotional for everyone. As the parent, it’s on you to help your child say goodbye to you for now and live the best life they possibly can while they are at college. This is something that most people only do once in their life, and you don’t want them to miss out on anything because they miss you. Remind them that you are always there, and all they need to do is call if they need. It’s hard to let go, but they need to be free to fly in order to find their place.
